Really good pasta dishes 12/26/2007

Being a vegetarian, I was initially not looking forward to eating at this place mainly because there are not a lot of vegetarian items on the menu. However, I was really happy that I did eat here. I was there with 3 other people and we ended up ordering pretty much all the veggie items on the menu (3 pastas + 1 panini + 1 appetiser). This turned out to be a lot of food - and we ended up taking leftovers home. The pasta dishes were very tasty. The amount of food in each plate was a lot - at least 2 people were needed to finish one dish. And all this cost us less than $40. So overall, the place has great food at a great price. I would definitely go back and recommend this place to all. Pros: Tasty food, amount of food, great price Cons: more of a take-out place more

Great Pizza! 4/12/2007

I live near this joint so I visit frequently. I used to think the local il Panino was the best pizza but Basta Pasta tops them in flavor and in price. While I wish they delivered and had more drink options they are a quality place for pasta and fabulous pies (za). Pros: location, food, prices Cons: limited drinks, no delivery more

Delicious moan-worthy food at great prices 10/14/2006

I found out about this place through CitySearch and went here on a whim tonight, trying to avoid going to one of the local chains. I was so glad I did. I had garlic bread with cheese, chicken marsala (with homemade fusili), and my friend had chicken alfredo with broccoli. 10 dollars for my meal, less for his, and we both walked away with half our meals since the portions were so generous. The attractive plate/bowls came to us steaming hot. Service was friendly and efficient and I always like a place that not only lets you have free water, but gives you a huge glass of it. (Styrafoam, but still). There could have been more cheese on the garlic bread, and my friend's ziti was a little too firm, but the flavor was outstanding in both. One bite of chicken soaked with the marsala sauce nearly made me fall over in the place. It's a shame their location is so out of the way, but perhaps better for my wallet, because I'm already eager to go again and try something else. Highly highly recommended. Pros: Mouth watering food, fantastic value Cons: Parking, location, atmosphere if you're looking for a hot date more

Instantly one of my favorites 3/17/2006

You must have their homemade pasta - I had it with bolognese sauce and it reminded me of Italy. Everything was good here - the salad, the cheese garlic bread, the pastas. Just excellent. I love this hole in the wall gem with unbelievable food. I recommended calling your order in advance. Pros: Great Pasta, Great Food more

It's about the food. 11/14/2005

Quality ingredients, high-end display, hearty, healthy portions, easily under $10/meal. Signature homemade pasta dishes will make you drool. Fresh mesculin salads, spicy sauces, rich cheeses, nice varied seasonal menu. No liquor license, so bring your own table wine (at your own risk, of course.) Location is a ways from Central Square, so if you're really hungry, driving/biking might be the best way to get there. Take-out an option, open until 10pm-ish most nights. Pros: walk-in, take-out, yummy, inexpensive Cons: limited drink options, street parking more

GREAT little Italian place 8/5/2005

As someone who grew up eating family-cooked Italian food in a town with lots of great Italian cooks, I >HIGHLY< recommend this place for a low-cost, casual dinner. Portions are huge, and the service and food are great - my suggestion is the chicken parm! Pros: Great good, Friendly service more

Can't get more for your money! 7/20/2005

Best pasta, bar none, in the Boston area. Homemade fusilli is fabulous and the risotto is outstanding. Not much on looks but long on quality. If you want to add ambience, order it take out! more

  • In Short
With little décor to speak of and a walk-up counter, this tiny Cambridgeport restaurant provides area workers with a no-frills spot for a quick, cheap bite. Straightforward meatball subs and eggplant parm dishes are meals in themselves, and hardly anything on the menu tops $10. High-end pasta dishes include gemelli with gorgonzola, chicken and walnuts.
