HORRIBLE!!! 1/30/2012

Horrible experience right off the bat. I reserved the mezzanine for a party of 35 to find out they double booked the spot. I was informed that we could share the spot but the existing party was NOT having it and coughed up an attitude. I was told the existing party would be there til 12 but they ended up squatting all night. Management did not do a damn thing and I did not want to ruin my birthday so i let it slide. We made the most of it by spreading out over 6 tables but still, the service was horrible and the crowd was rude. If you decide to get a large party together in Santa Monica, go to Yankee or Ma'kai. I'm sure they wouldn't screw you over like Barney's did to me! more

The Food!! 8/23/2011

I enjoy their food here. Lots of mouth watering flavor and I like the super fast way they get the food out to you, without feeling hurried. More accurately, I think I should say that the food comes out in successions, at the perfect timing. more

Not worth the wait 7/27/2009

We waited for an hour to get into this place, I will say it was on a Friday night and that normally would have been just fine, if we had been told that was going to be the wait. She informed us when we got there that the wait would only be 25 minutes. The Hostess did a horrible job at keeping patrons informed as to the longer wait. Once inside, I will say our waitress was on top of things. She got our son's meal out to him first, within 10 minutes of sitting down (very impressive) and actually got our meals out to us within 5 minutes of ordering (appetizers first, then main meal). The food was not worth the money paid though, I have nothing against bar food but I have definitely had better. The French Onion soup was actually sweet, which it is not supposed to be and the fish in the fish and chips was actually a bit undercooked. My husband's chicken fried steak was the size portion that you would receive at a 5 star restaurant, not at a pub type place. The chips were great though...lol. I do not normally write bad reviews unless I had a really bad experience at a place and unfortunately this was one of those bad experiences. Pros: Great servers Cons: long wait, horrible hostess, not even above par bar food more

try barneys brew! 7/21/2009

potato skins with cheese, chili, bacon, sour cream, and quac will leave you full for a day Pros: close to the beach and great food Cons: parking in santa monica can be tough more

Best Happy Hour in Santa Monica 6/22/2009

Barney's is my new neighborhood bar...What's not to like about this place. A great selection of food and beer (the burgers and onion rings are my fav.) combined with a laid-back atmosphere. Great Happy Hour specials. Pros: An unending menu and Stella on tap Cons: Sometimes a little wait - but for good reason more

Barney's 1/27/2009

If you are a sports enthusiast, then this is the place to eat or grab beers. There are flat screen TV everywhere you look, so you can?t miss a second of the game. They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner entrees from open to close. Most of their portions are big and offered at a reasonable price. The Belgian waffles are amazing and cooked to perfection! more

Don?t pick this Promenade restaurant 7/1/2008

I had high hopes for Barney?s. Their pub style decor with licenses plates and hub caps gave the restaurant a very cool vibe, and their outdoor patio next to the Promenade is perfect for people-watching. Plus there?s the newspaper menu; literally a journal of every type of American classic dish imaginable. Yet food and the service when I was there were incredibly disappointment. My chili was watery and lacked flavor, and my friend?s potato skins were overly oily and too drenched in cheese. What?s the point of generous portion sizes if you don?t want to eat the food? Plus, our waitress forgot twice to bring my guacamole and my friend?s sauce. Next time I?m at the Promenade, I?m eating elsewhere. Pros: ambience, menu variety Cons: food, service more

It Is What It Is 5/4/2008

Barney's is not gourmet food. It is not even the Barney's where Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin hung out. Pros: Reasonable, edible Cons: Parking more

Barney's Beanery lousy service, lousy food...pass this one by! 3/7/2008

A while back we enjoyed a very nice meal with good service and an all around good experience. Today was anything but! The waitress didn't even know how to answer questions about the menu and then argued about what was supposed to be on the plate when the ""runner"" delivered it minus key things! The chicken wings were tough & suspect they were made sometime in the past decade, frozen & then served today. The baked potato was practically crunchy...on the inside! Yuck! Pros: Convenient, if you are shopping on the Promenade Cons: It ain't worth the time or trouble! more

Ruined by dumb owners. 11/1/2007

I'm never going back. Barney's used to be the best bar in Santa Monica. Then they got rid of all their good staff. Ryan was a mainstay at that place since it opened. I don't think Lisa works there anymore either. And I heard Jeff was gone too. I don't know how the people that run that place think that people will keep coming if they don't see their favorite bartender when they get there. The service at the tables is terrible and the food isn't that good either. The only reason to go was for the bar staff. And since they're not there anymore, I won't be either - and neither will any of my friends. Pros: There aren't any Cons: They fired all their best staff more

Best Place to watch football on the West Side!! 10/5/2007

Went to Barney's on the Promenade for the first time this past weekend with some friends to watch the Steelers game - holy s*** is this place awesome!! Not only did we have our game on our own great big flat screen HD tv - but every other NFL games was just a glance away. The bartender on the microphone (I think his name was Brian?) seems to run the show - he made sure everyone in the place knew how to find their teams and was super helpful when my friend asked him to get the Colts game on near where we were seated. With so many tv's and so many fans, I don't know how he keeps it all straight! The beer selection is great and always cold, the food gets the job done. All I know is, we felt like we were taken care of (except when we lost) and we've found our new spot to spend Sundays in Santa Monica! Pros: Lots of TV's (mostly HD), every game on, big Steelers crowd, Brian the bartender Cons: food was so-so, hard to get a seat if you're not there early more

Good beer selection 7/25/2007

Barney's is a fun spot if you are looking to grab a beer and hang out. The bartenders are really nice people and even though they usually have a large crowd to look after they are extremely attentive. My only complaint is that it is often noisy and crowded. Pros: Great beer selection, fun ambience Cons: Noisy and Crowded more

Easily a favorite bar 3/30/2007

I'm originally from the Midwest and now live close to the Promenade, and this is easily the best place around the area that we frequent quite a bit. Clubs and the like are fun from time to time, but Barney's is never a bad choice. How would I describe it? Just a good old fashioned bar. It's not some snobby, overpriced ""chic"" lounge that tries to be super high class (which are unfortunately oversaturrated and a dime a dozen in LA). It's not one of the worthless, dirty, gh.etto/shady clubs in the area like the recently closed down Gotham Hall and Club 213 or whatever it's called. It's just a good time with a great atmosphere, great people, a pretty friendly waitstaff, and more. If you're looking for a chill night and want to try a few random beers from the huge selection, go. If you're in the mood for some shuffle board or air hockey, go. If you want to just get sloppy-drunk and have a great time, go. It's also a great place to catch a game (they have tons of TVs), which we do all the time (especially for Packer football games :)). About the only thing that isn't that great is the food, but it gets the job done and doesn't cost much anyway. Pros: Great, sociable people, fun atmosphere, huge beer selection Cons: Food isn't anything to write home about, but some works (like the chili) more

I shouldn't even be writing this... 1/17/2007

...because as one reveiwer noted it is one of the best kept secrets on the Westside! It is also the Best place to catch a game. The seemingly typical 3rd Street patio entrance masks a cavernous interior adorned with TV's, Music, and... an ecclectic bunch of junk all thrown together on the walls and booths that takes me back to college. With over 132 Beers I can just see myself starting another empty beer bottle sculture! During gametime stick to the wings, skins or fries, chili and pizza. My personal fav are the Breaded Spicy Cajun Shrimp! more

Good sports bar 1/9/2007

One of the best places in town to watch a game, what with all the tv monitors and the fact that they always have many games on at once. The food, as at the original West Hollywood location, generally is just okay but the prices are relatively inexpensive for 3rd St. Promenade (a very touristy shopping area). (Actually, at the WeHo location I've found that much of the food is greasy, but you go there for the ambience). Pros: Great sports bar, excellent location Cons: Food can be subpar, but you can find a few good dishes/appetizers more

Fun Bar Scene 11/1/2006

The bar scene is pretty fun and relaxed here, especially if you can get a table on the patio. However, every time I come here the waitresses are switching shifts, no matter what time of day, and I always get two different waitresses. Literally, this has happened to me EVERY time I go (and it is right down the street from my office, so I go pretty frequently for lunch and happy hour). But they have good bar food and the drinks are reasonable for LA. more

Fun, but I like the original one better. 8/9/2006

Friday night review: Pros: attractive young n friendly crowd, big long bar, the Kamikazes Cons: bathrooms not checked on a regular basis, their curdled milk more

The best sports bar on the Westside, by far!!! 2/9/2006

This place is incredible!!! The food is great and a good value - nothing like pigs in a blanket with eggs for sub $7 bucks. Then you have the beer selection, it is one of the greats in LA. Lastly, you have the entertainment factor - I think I counted 40+ TVs behind the bar that will always have your favorite TV on. And if you want a booth most have their own TVs just for them. I am not sure about the crowd/wait as I don't tend to hit it at busy times, but I sure do love it when I go. Pros: Beer selection, Fabulous food, TVs more
