Best

We've been going there for over a decade. Best mongolian grill in the triangle. Veggies are always fresh and the spices are wonderful. Really reasonable prices.

Addictive food! 5/10/2011

Total Diamond in the Rough--Love it! 3/16/2011

First of all, everyone who complains about not being able to mix their own sauce or not having as many choices should stick to Americanized Crazy Fire. This food is outstanding and highly authentic. Its like casting pearls before swine :) more

Colon to Brain: You have may have made a huge mistake. 2/24/2009

You go there because you lost a bet or you're done with it all or bored with food that ""tastes good"" or is ""safe"" or ""doesn't help you shuffle off this mortal coil."" You DO NOT go to Bali Hai because you want to experience what Mongolian food actually might taste like and you certainly don't go if you're having prostate surgery the next day or you still have a working colon. BUT YOU MUST GO. more

Beware of Crazy Cowokers 2/18/2009

Man, this person that I work with is crazy about this place, but I don't get it. I think there is something addicitive in the food or this restaurant has some kind of a cult following by the way this person goes on about this restaurant. Every time going out to lunch is brought up there has to be an excuse ready for why we can't go out to eat at this place. Another person summed up this dining experience already......""Building is run down and unappealing. The selection of vegetables was ok but we were used to having a larger selection at other Mongolian BBQ places. You have 3 choices of meat (beef, pork, turkey) opposed to other places that have these along with shrimp, crabmeat, and chicken. You are asked basic questions about how spicy you like it and a few others. I am used to mixing my own flavors. We sat and were served 1 fork each and a drink in a plastic Pepsi cup. We did not get to choose what kind of rice. The taste of the food was good. The cash register is located between the bar, soda fountain and the cooking area. This puts you in everyone's way when you go to pay. When the waitress smiled and said $8.25 each I knew I would not be back."" Pros: food tastes ok Cons: temperature is bad, dirty place all around more

I LOVE THIS PLACE 10/4/2008

Great place to eat, you would never know it from the outside...DO NOT judge a book by its cover. They have quite a few veggies to select from, as well as 3 different types of meats. They also offer seafood such as shrimp and scallops, but you must as for them. They make the sauce choice very very easy. I am not an Asian food chef so I am not up to date on my mixing skills. So you chose sweet, spice, and other options...ITS SO YUMMY more

Best fresh stir fry ever 9/21/2008

Try to avoid twelve o'clock crowd at lunch, there are very loyal lunchies who go here. Yeah, the place is not big on decor, but the food is fresh and raw right in front of you and it comes off the grill so hot you have to wait several minutes to take a full bite. It bums me that people try to pile two bowls so high with food, i mean who can realy eat that much in one sitting? Also, i have to pick up the cost of their excess because you know who the cost gets passed onto. We always bring a peanut butter sandwich or a burger for our picky child and they are fine with that. I hope the restauarant prospers but i hate crowds so i am glad it looks a little dumpy and keeps the hordes away. Believe me, if people knew what good food they are driving by going to Applebee's or Outback or wherever they go, boy they would go in a horde to get some great Mongolian stir-fry. I rarely see people get the curry flavor, but since i started i can't stop. I am now getting a B5 double E (combination sweet-soup/hot spicy with a double shot of curry). I wish i had started eating here 10 years ago instead of last year! Now we have another stand-by for geting a meal besides Neo-Monde or Royal India or - heck i gotta go, my wife is in the car and guess where we are going out to eat? Pros: simply great food at a great price Cons: ambience is lacking more

Best fast-service Asian food in the Triangle. 3/13/2008

I avoided this place for the first 3 years I lived in Raleigh due to it's outer appearance. Once I finally heard enough friends raving about it, I checked it out with some skepticism. Frankly, I was blown away. The food is fresh, healthy and fast. I especially recommend it to people who enjoy spicy food. The price can't be beat either. Pros: food, fast, price Cons: atmosphere more

Best Chinese Mongolian EVER! 11/9/2006

This is THE place to eat! i used to eat there 3 or 4 times a week when I worked in Raleigh. Now I have lived in Greensboro for 3 years and I'm still having cravings and sever withdrawals. Pros: Delcious! Cons: Too far away from Greensboro! more

Food is Delicious 5/29/2006

Bali Hai is not a restaurant you go to if you are looking for ambience. HOWEVER, if great food is what you are looking for, then go to Bali Hai. The food is awesome. Their 'premade' spicy combinations offer something for everyone. They have Spicy, Sweet -n- Sour, Curry, Not Spicy, and Combination (spicy and sweet-n-sour). They do offer steamed rice, chicken, shrimp, and maybe steak (not sure) if you ask for it. I have been hooked on Bali Hai for years!! Pros: portion size, taste Cons: ambience more

No ambience, but the food is delicious! 4/3/2006

I've been going to Bali Hai for 8 years now, it is _always_ delicious. The other location in Durham is newer and nicer and the food has that same Bali Hai flare/flavor. The person who did the last rating may like the ""Americanized"" mongolian that you can get at those other ""crazy"" type places, but if you want the real deal, Bali Hai always delivers friendly service and great tasting authentic mongolian bbq! I go there for their unique flavor, not for gimmicks. If you want gimmicks, then stick with the other mongolian chain stores. Pros: Flavor, Consistency, Size your own portion Cons: Ambience, Crowded at Times, Limited veggies more

My favorite lunch stop 1/31/2006

The flavor of the food is the reason I choose this Mongolian over the others. Sure, the others give more choices of vegetables and spices. The Bali Hai chefs take control of your dish ... and create an incredible taste. Pros: food flavor more

B13 1/6/2005

Make 'e Spicy!!! I just ate there again today and it was great as usual. I got a spicy 13 which is off the scale but this is one of the only places that can make my meal as spicy as I like it! This has been my favorite mongolian place since a friend took me there over 7 years ago. There was another guy there who said he's been going there for nearly 20 years. It has to be consistently good to keep customers for that long, keep up the good work guys! Pros: Flavor, Value, Consistency Cons: , Ambience more

Dirty Chop-Stick, but Great Food 7/3/2003

Bali Hai is in an old Western Steer type restarant -- not very big & somewhat run down. There is no decore, atmosphere, or view. However, they do a much better job making great food. You will get one or two salad bowles to fill with raw vegitables and thinly sliced frozen meats -- whatever you like in a stir-fry. They will ask you if you would like one of the three sauces, or a combination sauce (my favorite). Then they ask how spicy you want it (01-10) -- I like a 5. Your last choice is white or brown rice -- I reccommend brown. Then they cook it on a dome table similar to Japaneese style, but you can go sit at your table until it is ready. Yumm. Pros: Taste, Food, yummy Cons: atmosphere, atmosphere, atmosphere more

Great place for Mongolian style grill 6/22/2003

This is definitely the place to if you want Mongolian style grill. Price is reasonable and service(dinner time) has always been more than you would expect from this type of restaurant. Most importantly, the taste of the their sauce is addicting and goes very well with the fried rice they serve. After going to a terrible place like CrazyFire, I learned to appreciate what this restaurant provides to our town. Pros: great food, friendly service Cons: small parking more

D7 - my favorite!! 6/29/2002

Bali Hai is the best Mongolian BBQ restaurant I've ever been to (and I've been to quite a few). It's not much to look at, but the food is awesome! Try the combination 7 (D7). The best thing about Bali Hai is that the cooks mix the sauces for you. You don't have to concoct some mystery sauce for yourself. Pros: Inexpensive, Excellent Food, Friendly more
