My cousin and I got their Hot Pastrami sandwich. I noticed it was not very good. Upon looking their was only 2-3 thin slices of Pastrami in the sandwich. How they could put this out I'll never know. I will go to Jason's Deli or get a Rubin at Arby's next time. I told my family I will not frequent Athens Pizza when we all go out. I've been going to Athens since it opened, many, many years ago . It breaks my heart to see the decline. more

Greek Cusine 3/2/2011

You need to enjoy and appreciate true Greek food to like dinning at Athen's. YaYa,teaches her staff how to prepare greek food the right way. We do not live close or would dine here often. We do go when in town. more

OK pizza, overcooked gyro meat. 8/5/2010

The food is decent. Probably the best thing I've had there is the mediterranean pizza. Their tzaziki is excellent, and I love gyros, but every time I've ordered one, the gyro meat is way overcooked. more

Be Careful What You Order 8/2/2010

I've always found Athens to be consistent - not great, but consistent in service and food quality. On Saturday ordered an eggplant parmesan sandwich, and when it arrived took one bite to determine it wasn't eggplant. When I showed the waitress that I thought it was meat not eggplant, she put her face down to the dish, declared it eggplant, but just cooked to a crispy stick. I ended up just pulling it off my sandwich and having the bread and sauce. When the bill came, I was horrified to see it said ""veal parmesan"" - I haven't eaten veal in 34 years and was literally sick to my stomach. When I showed her that she had put in the wrong order, and that I don't eat veal, her reaction was ""you're not going to get sick from that one bite are you?"" And I ended up paying for it! Pros: Some quality Greek dishes Cons: Service more

A long time favorite of mine 3/12/2010

Having grown up in Decatur, Athens Pizza will always hold a special place in my heart. It was actually the first pizza I ever had outside of my mother's homemade pies. So with that said, understand you are reading a biased review. I've tried a few of their Greek specialties over the years, but I always come back to the pizza. I love the slightly sweet and flaky crust, and while some might characterize it as too greasy, I wouldn't. The Athens Special is always a favorite for sharing among groups, but I tend to be a pick-your-own toppings kind of guy. I'll switch it up every now and then, but my mainstay is gyro meat. Where else can you get that on a pizza? In regards to these so called ""Atlanta Pizza Wars"", Athens would probably get overlooked by most. The Greeks haven't much for battles since the BC times anyway and my guess is Mrs. Papadopoulos has never heard of Jeff Varasano. more

Not the place to go for a party... or food with taste. 2/18/2010

I checked out this place a month ago for an anniversary party of 30. I was told we would have the ""party space"" for the evening and we would have multiple servers. When we got there only one server (Nancy did her best) was assigned for the group. Service was slow and some never got their drinks. It took over an hour to be served. Even though they were responsible for the delays, we were told we needed to be out in 45 minutes because another apparently ""more important"" group was coming in. I can now tell you how to have gifts, cake and fun in 30 minutes or less. The food is nothing special and apparently the owners feel the same about customers. The other parties planned for our group activities will obviously be held someplace else... maybe Target's food court; we'll get better service and food. Pros: I may think of something good later but I doubt it! Cons: Bad and rushed service, mediocre cold food, rude management more

OKAY , AVERAGE food 1/19/2010

a local favorite for many years 10/2/2009

I've been eating at Athens Pizza for many years and have found the food and service to be consistently good. I like the lunch specials, especially the baked spaghetti, and the seasoned Greek potatoes served with the gyro and souvlaki platters. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Pros: good gyros, moussaka more

Greatest place to eat in Decatur 3/28/2009

I would be greatly delighted to see all of you spoiled and coddled trust fund Emory and Agnes Scott students take your business into the over-rated and over-priced Buckhead dinning spots and let the locals enjoy this wonderful restaurant that has thrived here before you were even born. Athens Pizza is THE BEST! Pros: Great food, friendly service Cons: spoiled college students turning up their nose more

Bad service, bad food. 2/23/2009

My friend and I went here for dinner and asked for a gryo wrap to be put on the sub bread, because I do not like the pita bread. The waitress told us the cook would not make it. I thought this was amazing, I have never been to a restaurant where they would not accomidate the customers. more

Bad food am not an emory student 12/3/2008

Went in to eat and had a bad experience service was slow food was bad ordered a large cheese pizza when it came it was greasy and bland and burnt on the bottom also ordered a greek salad which was swimming in dressing I am not a student I am just giving an honest opinion maybe I came on a bad day but will not be back to many good places to eat. Pros: cheap prices Cons: bad service and food more

The reviews I read were so out of whack I cannot even imagine where they were eating.... 11/21/2008

I was looking to see if the special today was linguini with red sauce and seafood and while looking for this information I saw about 5 terrible reviews.... I am puzzled....I have been eating here for 20+ years and have never had a meal that disappointed. The staff is and has always been very helpful and courteous. The food is reasonable and delicious. I even created an account to put in the word, but all you have to do is go and see for yourself. If the food and service was as described then there would no way they would still be in business and thriving after 20+ years at the same location. All I can figure is that the reviews I read were from Emory students who didn't get a discount or something and wanted to flame them. That is okay, for those of us who have lived in the neighborhood for 20 years Athens remains a favorite. When you go give a shout out to Mama Papadapoulous....if you have a problem either she or her son are on hand to handle customer concerns. I am going there tonight for supper. The bad reviews are more a reflection on the reviewers than this resturant. I can't speak for the one in Norcross, but I will check it out as it is near my church...I think it was the one that moved from Chamblee, which was admittedly not as good as the Decatur location, but still worth a trip and in Chamblee with over 100 resturants that is a compliment. So what you should know in a nutshell:\r Athens is a great place to eat.\r Complaints about food and service are dealt with by the owners and not some slack jawed college kid.\r The food is good.\r The food is reasonable (you can always find a lot of Presbyterians in the resturant which indicates that the food is a good value for the money because Presbyterians are so cheap but they also have good taste.)\r If you go you might get to meet Mama Papadopoulous and she can tell you about life.\r Peace,\r G Pros: Daily specials, good food, good service, and Mama Papadoupolous Cons: Too many Emory students writing bad reviews and you can't get away from the Presbyterians. more

Amazing Pizza!! 4/1/2008

I recently had Athens Pizza supply pizza for an event that I held in Atlanta. A coworker of mine recommended using them since they had such great pizza. I was very happy with the help I received from the staff in setting up the order and they even delivered it since I placed a large order. The pizza was great - everyone commented on its great taste and asked where I ordered it. I will defiantly be visiting the restaurant soon. Pros: Great pizza! Cons: Haven't visited the restaurant yet more

worst service 3/29/2008

Went there on a tuesday they were not to busy we were seated right away when we walked in we were greated by a pleasant man who sat us with a smile. When our waitress finally came she seemed disinterested in serving us. We ordered a large greek salad and pizza the food was soso. The atmosphere was not friendly and the service was just as bad. We were not impressed. We wanted a desert were not offered any suggestions. We told the man at the register and he apologized and told us to come back which of course we will not. Pros: cheap Cons: not a good place to eat more

feels like a hospital cafeteria 2/24/2008

This place is very strange. The outside seems somewhat inviting, but once you get inside the decor is very odd, and reminiscent of a hospital cafeteria. I've only eaten here once, and that was enough to put me off for good. The food was barely mediocre, and the pizza just wasn't up to snuff. But the atmosphere is so overwhelmingly unpleasant (including a rather large brown insect scuttling across the floor) that it overpowers everything else about it. We were glad to get the check and quickly head out the door. more
