The only thing this place really has going for it is its history and location. Astroland is a modest collection of carnival rides and the only hold over from the park's zenith, th...

cute for a date 6/19/2005

I went on a first date here and it was adorable...I had never been there before cuz Im from Detroit but i thought it was cute. Its not like six flags or anything like that but its cozy Pros: Cute more

IT'S A CLASSIC! 6/19/2005

I wouldn't quite call it the worlds best (and I'm from Brooklyn!) but Coney Island is certainly worth a trip for the overall effect. The rides are mostly T-rated (for toddlers), but the combo of the sand, sea, and Nathan's Famous is hard to match. No, it ain't Six Flags but, after 40 years, I still find it more enthralling than all the "Disney-fied" theme parks (which it may soon become, much to my chagrin) Pros: Beach, Food selection Cons: Crowded more

Are you people kidding me? 6/19/2005

Coney Island as #1 in the COUNTRY?! PLEASE! I lived in CI for about 10 years (as a kid and teenager) and ummmmmmmmm it has A LOT to be desired! Ok yes it has history, so does Hershey Park, it doesn't warrant it being the #1 park. I agree with the Reviewees who suggest getting OUTSIDE of NY (and hilariously put by one "outside of the subway" lol) Also, those that "judged" these parks, did you ever ride the Cyclone? I thought my da*n heart was going to explode because they REFUSE to renovate that ride based on it's history. As you creep your way up you hear EVERY single damaged plank. Please people do your research; obviously someone needs to get out more. more

I can understand that not so great post that was writen , Coney Island aint like other amusement parks, its alot special then great adventure history wise or any other amusement park, doesnt have alot of big rides etc etc like other places. Its special place and diff. some people wont understand really , thats of coarse understandable. There improving coney and in few years it will be a place where alot of people would like to go visit then as it is now. Still nice to see it change shape, has a beach and the rides arent horrible just not alot of them, there lots of games, keyspan park baseball stadium near by to catch brooklyn cyclones game, and for now it will do, its what brooklyn has and as i'll say again its improving. Still has way to go more

NOT so great! 5/8/2005

I am writing this is in rebuttal to the editorial review and the person who thinks this is the greatest amusement park in the country. Well I am here to tell you these people are out of their minds! Having recently been to Six Flags Los Angeles, not to mention the dozen or so amusement parks i have visited in my life, this park is barely above state fair caliber. These people have clearly not been outside of New York and need to sample some of this great countrys theme parks. Let me mention a few of the greats, THE BEAST, THE MELLENIUM, THE GOLIATH, TOP THRILL DRAGSTER, THE BIG SHOT and the VIPER just to name a few. If you havent heard of any of these maybe you should leave the subway behind for a few days and find out what a real amusement park is like! more

Largely A Kids Attraction 4/14/2003

Though this is no Six Flags it certainly can fill a day of fun for the kids. Adults may get bored quickly since there are two areas of kiddie rides and only one or two major rides for adults. I usually take the kids to the NY Aquarium next door and enjoy the evening on the rides this way everyone is happy (adults & children). Pros: Fun for the kids Cons: Not Large Enough more

A real, old-time coaster 6/26/2002

Taking a ride or two on The Cyclone is worth the trip out here (and it's a pretty long ride on the subway). The Cyclone is the best of the old-style coasters -- built on wooden planks -- and the ride is rickety almost to the point of being scary. Pros: Old-time fun Cons: Long ride on subway more

Cyclone's worth the trip 5/12/2002

Apart from the the Cyclone and the Wonderwheel, most of the rides here are of the street-fair variety. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but Astroland is no Great Adventure on the Boardwalk. The Cyclone is one of the world's scariest rollercoasters, largely because it's made out of rickety, 75-year-old wood. You definitely have to try it at least once in your life--just not on opening day. more
