Worth a try.... 8/12/2005

I have lived in Brookyln my whole life, and have visited Coney Island and the amusement park several times. The park isn't the best park ever....but it's worth a visit. Besides, would you rather waste a Saturday afternoon, or at least hang out at the beach, check out some rides, and have a good time?. Coney Island is a good place to visit. I also recommend this place. I have visited this place so many times, and I don't think I'll stop any time soon. ;) more

The Nolstalgic Approach!! 7/13/2005

Astroland is a classic, and like a classic movie or a classic car it doesn't have all the new special effects or the state-of-the art engine. But somehow the classic "feel" fills the gap. If you are looking for thrills, believe me when I tell you the Cyclone is scary enough, being that old. The attractions are so original, that they are being copied to this day, like in the show CARNIVALE, where all the scenery and themes are straight from Astroland (Used to be home to world famous showman Indian Larry (RIP)). You got the Brooklyn Cyclones playing next door, and the world-famous Brighton Beach sprawled alongside the park, not to mention the aquarium. So grab the kids, the girl, or the friend, whichever suits you, and head on over to ASTROLAND!!!! (oh yeah, if you get on the huge "impossible-to-miss" ferris wheel, take the swinging cars,....it'll be more...umm...FUN!) Pros: Cheap, Crowded, Nostalgic Cons: Loud, No Parking, Untidy more

Cyclone and history 7/12/2005

I have been going to Coney since the late fifties It was great then. Slowly it deteriorated, until Tilyou closed Steeplechase sold it to Trump who wanted to tear down everything It didn't work and he sold it to NYC. The dingy old Coney like the one in the Warriors movie was just about finished. The Cyclone was bought by NYC to tear down and extend the Aquarium ; purtist fought and saved it as a landmark. 25 years later it is the mjor attraction and still the best damn coaster in America, The first drop is the greatest period Major air time . Coney is definetly seeing a revival Very diverse culture as Little Odessa is now being felt. There is even plans to revive the old Surf Avenue trolley line Go to the beach get some sun eat some salt water taffy and enjoy the rides. more

Memories 7/12/2005

Before I even read the top 10 amusement Parks, I thought of Coney Island, the Coney island of my youth, and when i saw it was rated number 1, I was very surprised, but happy at the same time, no its not Disney or Great adventure, but if your local it is a great place to make memories. more

You have got to be kidding! One of the best theme parks in the country? Number one? Yes, the old Cyclone is special, but if someone traveled many miles to go to Astroland based on your rating, they would be VERY disappointed. It's okay as a local New York trip for New York area residents or someone visiting for other reasons, but all in all not worth a lot of effort. Besides, many parks around the country have old, wooden roller coasters plus a whole lot more to offer. You must be pandering to New York City is all I can say. Cons: congested area, not very clean, overall ride quality more

Are you people kidding me? 6/19/2005

Coney Island as #1 in the COUNTRY?! PLEASE! I lived in CI for about 10 years (as a kid and teenager) and ummmmmmmmm it has A LOT to be desired! Ok yes it has history, so does Hershey Park, it doesn't warrant it being the #1 park. I agree with the Reviewees who suggest getting OUTSIDE of NY (and hilariously put by one ""outside of the subway"" lol) Also, those that ""judged"" these parks, did you ever ride the Cyclone? I thought my da*n heart was going to explode because they REFUSE to renovate that ride based on it's history. As you creep your way up you hear EVERY single damaged plank. Please people do your research; obviously someone needs to get out more. more

A Part of History 6/19/2005

Some people are missing the point about Astroland/Cyclone. Yes, if you compare this park with ones of today, it doesn't compare. However, riding the Cyclone, that people of your Great Grandparent's were in this park and rode, is amazing. It's still a great rollercoaster, and it's a part of the history of NY and of the country. This location once had 3 parks, world famous and THE place to go. There's the ""Parachute Drop"" used in the 1939 World's Fair. Six flags will not have that. Beach, baseball and the original Nathan's, that is also visiting history. And they're still great hot dogs !!! So bring the kids, ride on the most famous roller coaster in the world, swim in the Atlantic, lunch at Nathan's and go see a baseball game. Dream of the generations for a 100 years that did the same thing, and be a part of history....... Pros: Historical, Varied activities Cons: Small, Not the cleanest, Lack of "Big Rides" more

IT'S A CLASSIC! 6/19/2005

I wouldn't quite call it the worlds best (and I'm from Brooklyn!) but Coney Island is certainly worth a trip for the overall effect. The rides are mostly T-rated (for toddlers), but the combo of the sand, sea, and Nathan's Famous is hard to match. No, it ain't Six Flags but, after 40 years, I still find it more enthralling than all the ""Disney-fied"" theme parks (which it may soon become, much to my chagrin) Pros: Beach, Food selection Cons: Crowded more

cute for a date 6/19/2005

I went on a first date here and it was adorable...I had never been there before cuz Im from Detroit but i thought it was cute. Its not like six flags or anything like that but its cozy Pros: Cute more
