Asked Dr. Applegarth a question about the treatment he was proposing and he responded sarcastically ""Should I just take out every mole on your body?"" We were only talking about one mole that concerned him and I asked an honest, simple question. When I answered his question by stating we were just talking about one mole, he blew me off and didn't answer me. The man is arrogant and did not treat me well. My next appointment I drove 30+ minutes to avoid this man.\r more

I visited Applegarth Dermatology and paid the fee of $30 on 7/17/2012. Today (2/12/2013), I receive a letter in the mail dated 1/4/2013 that says if I do not pay $83 by 1/21/2013 (22 days ago), they will send me to a collection agency. Not only do they not explain what the additional fee is for, they send the bill to me after the date I am supposed to pay it. Thanks for ruining by credit Applegarth Dermatology. I would recommend everybody to avoid this place at all costs. more

I was seen in the LaPorte office in January of 2012. Paid my co-pay with cash since they do not take anything else. Since I have good insurance I did not know that there was a balance due but two months after visit I received the a bill from the office for 26.00 and a message saying they were sending me to a collection agency. THIS WAS THE FIRST BILL I RECEIVED FROM THEM. I called the office the day I received this and told her this was the first bill that I had received and was told to pay it within the next month, which I did. I have now been sent a letter from their collection agency demanding money, which has already been sent to Dr. Applegarth's office. Just called the office again and was told TUFF. I have never been sent to a collection agency before in my life. My credit score is over 800 for a reason. I would NEVER NEVER NEVER recommend this dermatologist to anyone. And he should spend a little money on the ladies in the billing department to go to charm school. more

From the moment I arrived at the office, it was a pleasant experience. I wanted to write because I saw all the previous negative comments, and could not have disagreed more. My only critism was that the sign out in front of the building only says Fountainhead pointe, and not Applegarth dermatology, so at first I wasnt sure I was at the right place. The building was lovely, the front desk girls were welcoming. I didn't have to wait long, it took less than 20 minutes. The medical assistance who brought me back to the room were also friendly and made small talk. I saw the physican's assistant, named Lindsey. She was a very pleasant and knowledgeable. I had a biopsy done and she explained everything she was doing and made me feel comfortable. Some people complained about the billing, even though i haven't gotten the bill yet or anything well guess what visiting a doctor like anything else costs money i would rather know that i was getting taken care of like I should than worry about how much things cost. I thought it was about as good as a doctor's visit can get. I would recommend to anyone. more

Maybe I went on a bad day, but this was my first and most likely my last visit to Applegarth's. The office building is nice, but that was the only thing positive about my experience there. The receptionist (Teri) was extremely unfriendly...the only thing she cared about was seeing my insurance card and collecting my co-pay (I've never paid a co-pay before seeing a doctor, it's always been after the office visit). The receptionist is the face of your company...they should be pleasant and greet each patient with a smile!!! I don't even know if Teri had teeth! The office was constantly busy with folks coming in and out and she treated every one of them with the same uninterested attitude. When I was finally called back there was no"" Hi. How are you?"" Just my name and this way. The first room she was going to put me in had a MOUNTAIN OF BLOODY GUAZE on the table, so she quickly turned around and put me in a different room. Seeing that was definitely gross though. When Dr. Applegarth did come in he was nice, but just seemed like he had a million things going on...my appointment felt very rushed. I arrived 20 min early as instructed to fill out paperwork, waited 1/2 an hour to be seen, and then, I SWEAR, my appointment was less then 5 min with Dr. Applegarth. I left very disappointed. more

It was my first time to the dermatologist and I was pretty hesitant for the fact that most specialists are impatient and quick to the point. The music is very peaceful in the waiting area, when I was called back this young lady named lisa had taken me back, I had my book in my hand and she asked ""How my day was?"" I had told her pretty good and she even asked me if I was enjoying my book which was very sweet of her to say because most people are not observant. She made me feel very comfortable. Rob was very nice as well. I thought I would leave a review I enjoyed going there and look forward to seeing them again soon, if you want someone to make you very comfortable at a new office that young lady is the one very polite and cheerful what we need to see more of i'm very pleased with this facility. more

I received excellent care by all the staff at Dr. Applegarth's office. The facility was beautiful and clean, they even gave me a tour before my appointment! I seen Tom for my appointment. He looked at my moles and even took them off right then, I figured that I would have to wait. I would highly recommend this office to anyone. I would definately come back!! more

I would like to say I made appointment with Tom Sandin and he was very pleasant and funny. He has taken care of my issues and has explained all of my issues in great length and He was not looking at his watch like most Dr. due. I try to pay my bills on time so I know I dont have any issues and have called there office many times in reguards to my bill and have been treated quite pleasantly. So the staff is quite friendly in my eyes. I would highly recommend Tom Sandin and staff. more

I went to Applegarth Dermatology and saw Dr. Tom to get some warts taken care of. I called for an appointment on a Monday and to my surprise they got me in on Wednesday of the same week. Upon arrival the staff was very professional and friendly. Unlike most doctor offices I got right in to see Dr. Tom without much wait. I found Dr Tom to be very knowledgable, professional, and friendly. He explained the virus that causes my problem and the steps that needed to be taken for treatment. I had many questions and he took his time to answer all of them. I would highly recommend Dr. Tom and Applegarth Dermatology. more

I had been dealing with this skin problem for quite a long time when my wirfe finally made me go see a Dr. That is when I went to see Dr. Applegarth, the staff there was very friendly and quick to get me in. Dr. Applegarth was very knowledgable about my condition and explained it very throughly. In regards to people's comments on there billing as if you pay your bills on time then there is no problems. I will definately go back there and refer people there. more

WORST PLACE EVER!!!!!! I went to Applegarth to get a mole removed off my back; due to it possibly being cancerous. I was left with a HUGE scar and now (3 months later) it is growing back. They did a HORRIBLE job and I would NEVER recommend someone to go to them for anything. I tried talking with them to fix the issue and they wanted to charge me OUTRAGEOUS prices to ""fix"" it agian. Even though it was their mistake. WORST place of business!!! Then to top it all off they wouldn't accept payments for my bill so they sent me into collections...BS. I'm a full time college student that babysits my nephews for cash. I was paying $35-$40 EVERY month without missing any payments and they sent me to an attorney for collections. Again, BULLS**T more

The majority of the reviews that have been posted have to do with financial issues and no show appointments. Our providers do not charge for the first or second no shows. This charge is only added for multiple no shows or same day cancellations, as we understand that things do come up and schedules adjusted. Uncaring, uncompassionate , money hungry ! That sums it up. Dr.Tom shows no interest in listening or caring about your needs or the needs of family members.He accepts one opinion and thats his.He doesn't want to help you he wants to keep you coming back.He is a wanna be know it all! His assistant Jeramiah has no personality and treats you with no respect and doesn't even make eye contact with you.He also could care less about you or the reason you are there. I will never return here ! I wouldn't take a slug to be looked at here. If you want to be treated with respect and feel like someone is taking care of you,then do not go here! more

I had surgery January 2010 done by Dr. Tom at Applegarth's Dermotology in Valparaiso, Indiana. The surgery was to remove a cyst in my nose that was growing and sticking out and was about the size of a pea. After having the surgery, I went back a week later to have the stitches removed and explained then to Dr. Tom that it felt like the cyst was still there. He explained...""oh no, it's not there, your still a little swollen"". Then another week goes back (now 2 weeks after orginal surgery) I call back to the office and explain to the receptionist that \r I do not think that he got all of the cyst removed, because I still have the bump on the side of my nose, it's now just a little lower than were it use to be. She passed this along to Dr. Tom and I was told he wanted to see me. I went back into see Dr. Tom and I explained and showed him that he did not get all of the cyst out. He rasied his voice at me, told me I was not a doctor and that I was wrong. I got up, grabbed my things, told him that I was the patient, I know my body and that he was wrong. I then left and vowed never to return and most def DO NOT recommend this office to anyone. Here I am almost a year later (Dec. 2010) and I am getting ready to have the same surgery done at another Dermatology office because I WAS RIGHT! Dr. Tom FAILED to remove all of the cyst the first time. I have also have my insurance company over billed at Applegarth's Dermatology. I was charged my co-pay every time I went, even for the follow up after surgery to have stitches removed which is covered by insurance and states that I have no co-pay for follow ups after surgery. I had to even argue this fact and have my insurance company call the office and tell them the same thing. more

I have been a patient of Dr. Applegarth for years and would highly recommend him. He has treated myself and my boys for many different skin ailments with a high rate of success. I have United Healthcare insurance and have never had a issue with billing. His rates are very comparable to my children's doctor and my husbands. more

I would not recomend Dr Applegarth, unless you want your insurance overcharged!! The policy is 3 no shows and you get charged but he charges way more than that. Dr Andrew is great. the wait time is a bit long but he is way worth it. If you have an issue with anything dont call the office manager she will scream and curse at you. If you make her mad enough she will hang up on you. I do not know how she has kept this job that long. They go through employees like there nothing. Which isnt a good sign at all. more

No show fee when I cancelled over 24 hours earlier!Overcharged my insurance, and when trying to pay balance, they will NOT accept anything but check or cash!!!! Oh, and no drop off box to leave a payment; they conveniently close at 5 and open at 8. Talk about making it inconvenient for their patients! Staff is NOT friendly; will never go back! For years I had a skin problem. I was miserable and saw many doctors, but nobody helped me. Many people I know have seen Dr. Applegarth and swear by him. So I made an appointment. He is worth the wait.\r \r Dr. Applegarth knew what my condition was the second he saw it. The first medicine he used worked. I developed an allergy to that medication and he found another one that works just as well. I'm telling you, this man knows his stuff. I feel great.\r \r I saw some reviews on this site that didn't match up with all the good things I had heard (and now know) about Dr. Applegarth. So I brought it up to him at my appointment. He said its sad but in his experience, complaints seem to revolve around people who don't want to pay their bills. I have had no problems with his office. \r \r He helped me when nobody else could. I think he is a very nice man. I would recommend him highly.\r \r Pros: Knows his stuff more

doctor was nice, but the tables in the room were visibly dirty, as in there was brown dirt on the counter, and there was a DIRTY BAND-AID ON THE COUNTER when I came in. The doctor noticed and picked it up and apologized, but how does someone MISS THAT when preparing the check-up room? Disgusting... more

I started with Dr. Applegarth when he first started his practice. He cared then, and took an interest in my skin problems. However, now he has many patients, (you cannot get in for months) and he just does not care about the job he is doing. He seems to only care about the money he can rake in. His office staff is rude. They would only accept cash, so I had to leave and go to an ATM machine to get some. They would not take a bank or credit card. His examine is hurried. He seems to like to give out ointments and pills, but does not get to the root of the problem. Places he has removed have left HUGE dips and scars in my skin. I have decided he is clueless. I DO NOT RECOMMEND going to him no matter what!! Go to Chicago or South Bend or anyplace other than to him!!!! Pros: pretty office Cons: only in it for the $$$$ more
