Flavor, presentation, class 7/12/2007

The only reason this is not number one on the list is because you penny pinching thrifty types are writing the reviews. Granted this place is expensive, but it IS the best in the area. Aged beef, an asian undertone, beautiful presentation. more

Alexander's does it all. And they do it all in style. Great kobe steak. Intersting Japanese steak fusion menu. If you're not convinced try their lunch menu first. Its expensive and ritzy and just what the bay area needs; new and INTERESTING food. Pros: Great Food Cons: Pricy more

Our server was Brian. It was our first time there and I did take my kids. My daughter (10) had the Kobe burger with fries. I had the Ribeye. If not for the help of our server I would have ordered something else. He was patient and explained how the food was prepared and that it was served a la carte. We ordered steak fries as a side dish. You get 3 for $6. But they were huge 1/4 of a large potato each and well worth it. The ribeye was cooked as I ordered and was almost as good as Ruth's Chris (it is not aged but was huge and excellent flavor). We had scallops for appetizers. My son said that he would never eat a scallop from anywhere else but Alexander's. The presentation was pleasing to the eye and the sauces really complimented the food that was served. My sister went there recently and was not as happy. I think that a good server can make good food better and can guide you towards ordering a meal that will be memorable. Best steak that has me addicted! 2/13/2007

This is a great place. I had a business lunch here about 6 months ago. Boy was I lucky. We each ordered the bone-in rib-eye. Fabulous! The steaks were tender and juicy. The best steak I have ever had and I have eaten at many steak and chop houses across the country. Ruths Chris might follow with second place, but not that close. Come hungry, bring money 1/17/2007

I love this restaurant for the awesome food. Genuine Japanese Kobe...you can't find that much in this area...but it's pricey. Then you'll be spoiled for regular beef. I love the little cotton candy they bring with the bill. I just wish they had some side dish with the steak that you don't have to pay extra for! more

Overated 1/14/2007

This steakhouse provides an interesting selection of food, but the tastes of them are quite disappointing. The tako salad was too sour, the appearance of the wild mushroom soup made us lose our appetite, and the steaks (filet mignon and new york) were very tender and juicy, yet tasteless. The tables were too close together which make any romantic dinner uncomfortable. more
