Nice space, do not get the poke. It looked like a big mound of pink mush surrounded by some greens. more

not the place it used to be... 4/28/2012

I've been to this place few times for happy hour and I liked most of the appetizers, except for the chicken wings, which were dry and more the size of frogs' legs. I always wanted to experience some of their full menu items, especially the fish. So finally I got myself to do it, and what a disappointment! I ordered the fish special, which was written only as bass. When I asked the bartender what kind of bass and where does it come from she said 'local'. The fish arrived and it was a pretty small fillet, placed on some unidentifiable greenery and 'white bean paste' with a canned food taste, with 5 yellow cherry tomatoes of varying levels of softness. I was hoping the taste will be more satisfying than the look, but I was up for a surprise. The fish had an burned salty crust on top of it, that I couldn't figure out how and why would someone do something like that. It was so salty that I had to order bread twice just to be able to live through it. MInd me, the bartender didn't even bother to ask how is the meal, even though she saw me chocking while ordering the bread. When I finally got her attention, she said the fish is from Long Beach. Really? The same Long Beach with the huge polluted shipping yard and high radiation levels? And I paid $25 for the taste of it? Sorry Akasha, but it takes a bit more to be the restaurant you aspire to be, and pricing yourself up won't get you there! more

bad service and now bad food! 5/2/2011

I love the idea of no antibiotics and no hormones on my food, and their pastries, delicious!!!! Even though they have terrible service i had myself going back again and again, complaining every time but happy with my food. Today was not one of those days....today i actually got my food faster than usual but as i was getting ready to eat my bagel I found MOLD all over the top!!! How does someone pull it out of the bag not knowing it is old, how does someone put it in the toaster not smelling or seeing the mold....and how does someone hand it to a customer not caring over the fact that it has mold! It is the most expensive bagel i have bought and it was the worst food experience i've had. Never again Akasha!!! Off to find a new organic restaurant. One with good service and fresh food. more

Best organic eatery in town 1/28/2011

Really top notch all around. Wait staff are friendly, although we sit in our usual table now and only see one in particular. The vibe is good, energetic, and organic. I mean that in a lot of ways. Sure, in the traditional sense the food is sourced locally when possible, so is Chipotle from cross the street. But there is something cool about the building itself that Akasha is located in. It has a sense of place that is inviting and warm, not at all cold or off putting. Perhaps the comfort food that fills the menu has a lot to do with that feeling. Gotta admit those sliders, mac and cheese, steak mmmmmm... wow. really good stuff. Try the specials from time to time, haven't gone wrong yet. Sure don't expect to either! more

Mediocre food, bad service 4/13/2010

I wanted to like Akasha because I like their ideology. I wish more restaurants tried to source from local farmers for sustainable, organic food. The location is lovely and they have decorated it well; shelves of organic cookbooks line the walls and brightly colored desserts call out to you from the counter. The execution needs massive improvement. I ordered a take out lunch for six people in my office. We had the tandoori chicken salad, open faced tempeh sandwich, red quinoa bowl with tofu and the mushroom pizza. Although I called in advance and told them what time I needed to pick it up, I still had to wait 30 minutes for my order, barely making it back in time for two people to eat and head to an afternoon meeting. While I was waiting the staff seemed to not notice or care that I was standing there. I politely flagged people down a few times for a status update and they just told me that they are working on it. Funnily enough, the two things I was waiting for were the chicken salads. Really? I had to wait 30 minutes for grilled chicken and lettuce? Those who ate the salads said they were 'passable', the tempeh was alright if not a little shriveled looking, and the quinoa was an extremely small portion. The mushroom pizza was the big winner with the office. Overall the portions were small for what we paid and the food wasn't enough to make us want to go back. Yes, the ambiance is great and they are honestly trying to promote local farms. I'm just not going to give them my business when they are so lacking in customer service. It's a shame. Pros: A great idea about how food should be procured Cons: Bad execution, small portions, expensive for what you get more

DO NOT SUPPORT AKASKA - HORRID SERVICE 1/13/2010

I recently went to Akasha with 2 friends for dinner. I was anxious to try it as I had heard good things about the food. Once seated, it took the waitress 20 MINUTES to take our drink order, then after sitting there for 40 MORE MINUTES, our server never returned but continually passed our table. Our table was right in front of a side door to the patio where every time the door opened, a hugh 'whoosh' of cold wind came blasting in. The owner, an extremely arrogant bald cocky sob, assured us that the door would be locked and would remain so. However, the wait staff continued to unlock/open the door, with total disregard about any of the customers concerns about the cold wind. We left and went to Kay & Dave's, which I HIGHLY recommend over Akasha anytime. Cons: HORRID SERVICE more

no no no.. not a good value, nor a good meal 12/29/2009

Ok, so being a waitress for many years I have an internal checklist of what a restaurant experience should provide and Akasha was such a DISSAPOINTMENT. As avid foodies, we were looking forward to a meal there with friends. However, the hostess was snoody and the waiter was like a limp flower. Hello people!!!! If I ask for suggestions, please provide some-- do not say, 'it depends on your tastes."" Clearly he was a struggling actor and was over the restaurant gig. Pros: location, decor Cons: food, service, value more

STAY AWAY 5/18/2009

Dont get me wrong, I am all about organic, locally grown foods. BUT the food here is terrible. I went with 3 other people. The turkey burger tasted like soggy meatloaf. I had the Mung beans and rice which was not only unappealing to look at but also to taste. And my other friend had a pizza. Not only was I unsatisfied with my meal after leaving, I returned home to get violetly ill for 2 days. And so did my friend who ordered the pizza. For your own good, stay away from here. Pros: the malbec, if anything Cons: THE FOOD more

Dont think this place is going to make it. 2/15/2009

Just plain not good. The drinks are super expensive for what they are ( agave or no agave ). The food was just not good and way over priced. With the economy being what it is i do not know how this place will make it. I say just keep walking a few doors down to Tender Greens and have a great meal without the attitude or the hefty price tag. Pros: unusual dishes Cons: everything stinks and is over priced more

Cold eggs, lame portions 2/1/2009

The ""Sunday Brunch"" here was a disappointment. We enjoyed the outside cafe seating and the $6.00 brunch drinks but the food was an EXTREME disappointment. I could be more creative and cook more quality food if I had stayed home. My wife's eggs came out cold and did not have the blue cheese that was on the menu (where's the Humboldt Fog, dude?). My ""Spicy Scramble"" listed, get this, listed the ingredients of salsa on the menu giving the impression that it was going to in the scramble, when in fact, it was in the dollop of salsa on the side! Guys, get your act together for brunch. We won't be back anytime soon until you do. more
