Great School for Little Ones! 4/12/2011

I love the Academy. My oldest son is 6 and has attended since he was three. My youngest 2 1/2 and he has been attending for over a year. The turnover is almost non-existent, both of the teachers for my boys have been at the Academy for 5+ years. The structure is wonderful and my boys are excited to go to school. The center is always very clean. The teachers and directors are very nice and always greet everyone with a hello. I love the carpeted indoor gym and the computer lab. Our family is very happy with the care that the Academy provides. more

Best place ever for my children 1/25/2011

I have to strongly disagree with the other reviews. My son has followed The Academy’s program since he was he was 12 months including their private kindergarten. He is now a first grader and academically at a second graders level. All of his teachers made sure that he was hitting every developmental milestone and helped me with many ideas to do with him at home. My daughter is now at The Academy and all of her teachers have exceeded my expectations. \r \r The facility is extremely clean and the staff always greets me and my children with a friendly hello. They have the most amazing toddler teacher as well as their Pre-K teacher. My children still have to go see their past teachers for hugs. And believe me they are always excited to see my children. \r \r I am also very excited about their new infant room for our new one on the way. My children love coming to The Academy and I will not take them anywhere else. \r more

Don't blame teachers for a bad company 12/11/2009

I am a former employee of The Academy, And I absolutely agree with the other reviews posted. Administration is poor at best. Situations in the classrooms are not handled fairly and appropriately. Whats worse they do not follow state regulations concerning ratio, or supervision of children. However don't blame these problems on the teachers. I know the teachers at the academy are focused on the happiness and wellbeing of the children, and they are very qualified to be teachers. They only work for this company and don't always agree with the practices the academy uses in terms of dealing with parents, children, or employees. The teachers are expected to follow orders so to speak and do all that the admin tells them to do, even if they don't agree. If a teacher did not follow direction she would suffer immediate termination. The Academy's main focus is not on the happiness and wellbeing of the children in their care. Their focus is unfortunately status in the community. more

NOT a Development Center...Not even a decent day-care 1/6/2009

My 3 year old's ""class"" has way too many children in my opinion and the workers are not qualified as ""teachers"". The girl watching a dozen kids in the afternoon is only 17 years old! They do absolutely NO academic work with the children. My son would have tantrums because of the chaotic situation. There is very little (if any) structure and the teachers do not have the skills to handle the children.\r \r Administration is extremely confrontational, NOT helpful and don't seem to want to listen to parent feedback. If you do not follow their recommendations and agree with their opinions, then they will begin providing ""write ups""....which are NOT accurate but paint your child as a problem. I received at least 2 write ups on my child that I know were incorrect and when confronted about the inaccuracies, I was told they they would get back to me...which they never did. If you do not do everything that the director wants, then they result to calling you to pick up your child on a regular basis. For 7 months I never received a write up or meeting regarding my child's behavior. On the director's insistence, I brought my son to Child Find for an evaluation since he wasn't speaking as well as the other kids. I provided the report from Child Find to the director who then wanted permission to speak to the Child Find people. When I refused, I began getting write ups and was called on 3 occasions over a 2 week period to come pick him up because he was ""disrupting the class"". I believe that her actions were in retaliation for my not acquiescing to her demands. They seem more interested in labeling your child than trying to figure out what triggers the behaviors and how we can detect those triggers and deter the tantrums before they happen. Their main focus is NOT the happiness and welfare of the child!!\r \r I would definitely NOT recommend this place for any child. Pros: Price-""parents night out"" Cons: EVERYTHING else more

More daycare than child development center 9/6/2007

The Academy was ""okay"" but I expected more structured activities and teaching than I found. There was also a biting problem in the infant/toddler rooms. My daughter was bitten several times. One of the bites got infected and I had to get her on antibiotics for the infection. When pressed, the teachers and administrators offered no plan solve the problem. In fact, they said it was normal toddler behavior and offered no apologies what-so-ever. I removed my child (who has never once bitten another child) and they chose to keep the habitual offender in the school to bite others. My child's new daycare offers more comprehensive daily reports, structured activities/lesson plans and NO BITING injuries after two months! Pros: Lower price than higher end day care Cons: Not enough structure or teaching more
