Abella Italian Kitchen

Very pleasant, comfortable setting. The staff was consistently courteous. The wine list is relatively short but with some good choices, although a touch on the expensive side given the way Abella emphasizes affordability in its advertising. (The two ""special"" wines offered by our server for that day were about $55/bottle.) A beef-based ""soup of the day"" was very good - hearty and flavorful. Unfortunately, my lasagne and my wife's chicken Marsala were both bland. Not bad - just bland. Desserts were also unremarkable. The host/owner (?) is a touch too aggressive about inquiring if things are OK. Once is enough. Four times is too many. And a pet peeve: even in casual restaurants, the official representative of the place should not be in jeans. Basically, this struck me as a place that can't quite decide what it is: neighborhood Italian watering hole? Upscale nouveau Italian? Family restaurant? Special evening restaurant? I went to Abella with my boyfriend's family for a birthday dinner and was very pleased with the menu. I can't eat gluten (nor can my BF's sister) but the kitchen was able to accomodate us, leaving the flour coating off my chicken (and her halibut) and substituting a wonderfully firm polenta for the pasta that usually accompanies the piccatta dishes. The sauce was so good, I was hunting for a spoon to virtually lick my platter clean! And the Mushroom risotto! Mmmmm. From their extensive wine list ( featuring primarily Italian wines) to their incredible food, this place is a can't miss! I had the pleasure of meeting the chef/owner while I was there and i was really impressed. The pasta is all fresh, he makes his ""napoli tomato basil"" sauce from scratch and the menu is comletely ""user friendly"". The hostess during the day was the only bright spot to my visit, she sat me as soon as i walked through the door. Then the experience turned sour. Food was cold, and i saw my server twice through the entire visit. Even if the food had been warm is was not worth eating. The marinara was obviously from canned tomatoes. I asked to speak to a manager and there was not even one present. It will be some time before i go back there. I hope they correct their mistakes. My boyfriend and I discovered Abella a little after they opened, and we have been going back ever since. Seating is always extremely quick and the service is excellent. The food is delicious and tastes really fresh. They also have a wonderful selection of wine, and they're marionberry lemonade is amazing! It's nice to have such a good italian place in Wilsonville.
