Such a GREAT experience! 4/7/2011

My name is Jeanne and I have been a client at A Step Above Day Spa for about 7 years. I just felt the need to mention how great the services I had were today. It was so relaxing and very much needed. I started my day off with a Brazilian wax from Natalie and she did a fantastic job. I've had them in other places and she is only preceded by one I had on vacation in Florida. Very detailed and precise about her work. I followed that up with a great Vitamin C facial from her and was so relaxed, as always. Then I had a great massage from Trisha and felt like a noodle afterwords. I finished my day up with a manicure and pedicure from Chrissy and now I feel like I was on vacation the whole time. I love those ladies there, and I love my husband for giving me my gift certificate for Christmas like he does every year. Thank you ladies! more

Worst Brazilian Wax & Leg Wax 12/17/2010

Today I went in for a Brazilian Wax and Full Leg Wax. This is the first time I've experienced A Step Above Day Spa. Well, I wouldn't advise anyone to go there for any type of waxing, especially either of the types of waxing I had done. First off, I get Brazilians and full leg waxes often, monthly or bimonthly, depending on how busy I am and when my vacations are scheduled. So I'm very familiar with the process, the waxes, etc. And my hair is pretty fine because of my regular waxing. I asked Natalie (Owner) ""What type of wax do you use, soft or hard?"" And she answered ""Hard."" And that's the kind of wax I like! Because if you use soft wax, you can only go over the area once or twice before you start ""derming"" the person. Which is similar to a burn and causes blistering. Well, she ends up using soft wax on everything, legs and genitals. She seriously goes over areas of my genitals many times and I left the spa very dark red with blood vessels broken all over the place. This hasn't happened in years, not since my very first Brazilian by an inexperienced Waxer. She even asks me at one point, ""Do you want the anal area done?"" And I'm like it's a Brazilian - that's why I'm here! Take it ALL off! Defintion of Brazilian wax according to Wikipedia ""Brazilian waxing is the most known of bikini waxes, and involves the removal of all hair in the pelvic area, front and back. It is a form of bikini waxing, and involves the complete removal of hair from the buttocks and adjacent to the anus, perineum and vulva (labia majora and mons pubis). "" So, after taking off layers of my dermis, leaving me bloody red - I go to pay.. The menu says: Brazilian with navel: $75 (I didn't even go to the navel, just as high as the mons pubis in front) And it says Full Leg: $70 and up. With my full legs being recently waxed the hair was pretty sparse, so I didn't expect much on the ""and up"" over the $70. The cashier asks me for $190. And that's before TIP! So, I'm thinking to myself... $75 + $70 = $140... Why would it ever cost $50 more than the base price? With sparsely covered legs and a Brazilian I didn't go up to the navel for... Well, I paid the $190, left a $20 tip on top of it... I tip 20% no matter what, but I promised myself I would leave a review on Yelp! when I got home, because NO ONE SHOULD EXPERIENCE THIS. PROS: Nice house CONS: Overpriced Overpriced lack of Professionalism Not tolerant of religions other than Christianity Doesn't know difference between hard wax and soft wax Doesn't know how to do a Brazilian wax safely more

hair diaster 9/15/2008

Do not get hair extensions at this salon. My hair is damaged due to extensions being put in not properly by the owner. Also, this salon is much higher in price than others. The owner should be ashamed of herself. Cons: inexperienced more

Great Experience 8/4/2008

I've gone to this spa 4-5 times. Each time the service has been wonderful. The environment was calming, the workers were welcoming, and everything seemed very well organized. My massages have always been fabulous and I've never had to wait 10 minutes beyond my scheduled time. Since I travel for work I visit many spas. I feel the prices of A Step Above are very reasonable. Pros: Free parking, inside is very nicely decorated Cons: none. more

Overpriced for low quality 3/23/2007

I agree with the other posts that the prices exceed what would be reasonable for the services. I also waited a long time past my appointment for a brow wax, which was $25 (unbelievable) and done by the owner, who did not seem to be that familiar with the process. It seems like she invested a lot of money in the decor and is charging high prices to offset that, while the services are not done well. Pros: nice furniture Cons: excessive charges, unprofessional and inexperienced staff more

Too pricey, false sense of relaxation 2/10/2007

I came here with a gift certificate and wound up spending more than than I would pay for an entire massage here. Their prices are inappropriately high. For clarification, the certificate was for one half-hour massage and I had to pay a lot extra for the hour massage I received. The prices were increased plus tip= entirely too much. They brought me up to the room 45 minutes after my appointment was set for. The waiting area was decorated with large comfortable chairs where you have to encounter other people also waiting past their set appointment times. I went upstairs and settled into the extremely comfortably-padded and heated table inside a lovely, cozy, warm room and was massaged by a lovely lady. I asked for a deep-tissue massage and received a soft massage, more like a swedish with a few extra presses into some muscles. Yes, I was disappointed. And there is nothing worse than being disappointed with a massage that you pay good money for. Am I right? In conclusion, don't be fooled by the decor and the prices--thinking you will be treated well. You will most likely be disappointed. Pros: Wonderfully comfortable massage table Cons: Not worth the money, was kept waiting for a long time more

Not too happy 2/8/2007

I went there for an interview for an open position and arrived 10 minutes early. Shortly before I walked in the door a customer who was getting a massage walked in. Her and I sat there waiting, and waiting, and waiting. After 45 minutes someone finally came in to see if we needed anything. I was told I would be seen shortly. The customer and I started to chat about the long wait. She began to tell me about how much she needed to relax. She was alittle upset about waiting for so long. Finally after an hour the masseuse came to tell her she would take her in a few mintues after she prepared her table. 1 hour and 10 minutes later she got her massage. 1 hour and 18 minutes I began my interview. Thankfully I did not get the position, but if i had I would of made sure someone didn't wait for so long for something that they are paying a nice price for. Pros: Quiet, expensive decor Cons: Small, lack of personalism more

Nice, but not worth the $ 12/29/2006

I went to this day spa to receive a therapeutic massage for 1 hour. The ambiance was quaint and quite relaxing, very nice. I relaxed down on the table after waiting for a half-hour (the table was wonderful - padded, heated, extremely comfortable) and received my massage. It was a very nice massage, but perhaps I was expecting too much from a therapeutic, or deep-tissue, massage. To me, it felt more like a swedish. She did work into some muscles, but not deeply. I paid $85 for the massage (I had an old brochure which said it was less $ before I went - they upped their fees a few months ago, so make sure to check up on it), and am sure it was not worth it. Now, if you have money to burn and appreciate a nice atmosphere, perhaps it will be for you, but personally, when I receive a massage, I go for the massage. But the atmosphere was nice. Pros: Relaxing, quaint ambiance with all the trimmings Cons: Too much money for services not up to par. more
