Review content:
All I have to say is the "Luck of the Irish" must have been with us last week as we wandered into Murphy's on the Green in Hanover, NH for lunch. Although many years ago I do remember a counter style restaurant in this location I was plesantly surprised at the "new" atmopshere. Murphy's on the Green opened on May 5th 1991 and has an Irish/English Pub mixed with a library feel. Dark Wood, Books and mural like pantings decorated the walls. Booths and table seperated from the bar and the doorway by half glass and wood walls. Quite inviting, cozy and literary feeling.
The menu, a bit of the irish pub flavor like Mamma Murphy’s Meatloaf served with garlic mashed potatoes, Murph's Original Fish & Chips, And one of my selections Murphy’s Irish Stew, sirloin combined with traditional vegetables in a hearty beef stock flavored with Guinness. A true olde world favorite This stew was outstanding. Perfect for a cold winters day. Other great items are the Ultimate Nacho's which I choose to acompany my stew. "Awesome Burgers" many Mexican, Italian and Asian dishes the sounded great. Yellow fin tuna, duck, cellophane noodles, calamari, steaks and "tree Hugger" selections and a fish taco on the menu that sounded like we had to go back to try them. One of the special soups was also tried, a cream of chicken, large chunks of chicken breast in a sweet cream base. Lots of chicken.
The food at Murphy's on the Green was hearty. And in Irish Pub tradition they offer Ales, Stouts, Lagers & More! A cup of stew was filling, a bread bowl of stew, a complete meal. I found the quality to be well above the average. Presentation was casual. Not only did we have a waiter, but there was also a head waiter type that made sure everyone was well taken care of. Prices were reasonable especially for a college town. My recommendation...try Murphy's on the Green the next time you are in Hanover, and bring your appetite.
