asian fusion is not a new concept, not in food, not in fashion, not in music, not in movie... what's the difference between asian fusion culture and americanized asian culture? wow, that's a deep question, and we could debate about it for hours over some good food at boas, if you'd like.
what does the name mean??? i asked the waiter that. as korean pop music has become quite popular around the world, many people know of the teen sensation pop singer boa kwon. i asked the waiter if the name came from her name. he gave a very good answer. he said that the name does draw appeal from the younger crowd with its connection to the popular singer, but the owner actually named it so after the old testament, biblical personality (boaz). wow, that's interesting. boaz was a man who shared his fortune, and the owner wants people to feel that way when they're at his restaurant. come join in the festivity, come share the joy.
boas has two sections: the "family restaurant" and the jazz bar. i wondered why they call it the "family restaurant" as it's not a carrow's or anything; but you have to understand that the moniker contrasts it from the jazz bar side which is also a japanese style "hostess" bar. i'm not too familiar with concept of "hostess" bars, and it's not like prostitution or a strip club or anything, but i guess it's something that's more adult in nature. anyway, i've only been to the "family restaurant" but would like to enjoy some jazz without any "hostess service" sometime in their bar.
the food they serve is pretty korean in origin but with contemporized euro-american flair. dishes are served euro-american style without chopsticks but with fork and knife. after all, in asia, to show that you've got class, you've got to be able to eat with a fork and knife.
the restaurant has some wines and a decent selection of korean liquors such as the raspberry brandy liquor.
the service in the restaurant is so friendly and very eagerly helpful.
