Review content:
“Stepping through the physical & virtual threshold of Blue Heron Design is like taking a spectacular, all-senses-stimulated trip around the globe.”
– Christine G. Adamo, author of “Business Beat” & former editor of the “Lee’s Summit Tribune”
Blue Heron Design, in the heart of downtown Lee’s Summit (Missouri), is a gem in its own right.
A self-professed purveyor of “jewelry, art & neat little stuff,” owner Peggy Brown opened this eclectic retail boutique in June of 2001. Five years later, it serves as a model of retailing charm in a city that seeks to revive & revel in its historic roots.
Whatever your personal, decorating or spiritual yearnings might be, Blue Heron Design is sure to have goods to quell them.
Thirty percent of its wares are hand-crafted by in-store staff. The rest are acquired locally, at world market bazaars & through Peggy’s efforts to make personal contact with unsung artisans – many of whom live in remote areas halfway ‘round the globe.
To that end, Blue Heron is the only local retailer to feature the work of Manoon, a.k.a. “John Gallery.”
Gallery’s hand-painted t-shirts & canvas patches feature iconic American lyrics & well-known landscapes. He works in Thailand from inside the Tree House – his ultra-humble abode.
His goal, Peggy explains, is to share his art & interests with the rest of us: a concept she, via Blue Heron Design, has successfully cultivated stateside.
