When I first heard that the comedian from “The Last Comic Standing was coming to Buckhannon West Virginia at West Virginia Wesleyan College. I could not believe what I was reading. Josh Blue became my favorite comedian as I was watching that show. He has Cerebral Palsy just like me. The difference is that he can walk. I figured that I would not be able to afford the tickets, because they would be outrageous, but it was only ten dollars per person.
I found out that he was coming on November 13th at 8:00. I found out in September, so I had a long anxious wait. My aide ordered the tickets. .I got really antsy because they never came in mail. So my aide called at someone told her they would be waiting for her at the chapel. I had other problems too.. Josh was so funny. My stomach hurt from laughing. He joked about everything from relationships, to his soccer career in The United states Paralympics. He also joked about how people perceive his disability. The President did not even escape Josh’s jokes which were very funny. He even joked about how you had to have a stack of paper if you wanted him to write down his phone number. . It seems many times people with Cerebral Palsy that can walk look like they are drunk, or that they are going to fall. Josh simulated a fall three or four times on stage. He can truly laugh about his disability which is great, because often times, people with disabilities are bitter or take life too serious. The facial expressions he gives to you as he is doing his routine make it even funnier. Josh had a question and answer session of ten question different people in the audience got to ask a question. I could not think of one, so my aide gave me an idea. My question was “Josh you know I had everyone in West Virginia voting for you, and even people around the country. How much are you going to pay me? Without missing a beat he said “see us palsy people are always trying to get a few bucks.” The show was not very long.
After the show a lady asked me “Are you going to go out and meet him, and see when you will get you money?” I said excuse me? Is he really meeting people? She said yes. I was so nervous. He gave me a “palsy hug”, and said nice shirt. I had on my Judy’s Book “I’m a 10 shirt” on. I said I wore it just for you Josh. I thought after the words popped out, I sounded like a dork. There is a reason behind me saying that though, and that is, because I wanted to have a shirt specially made with his soccer number and name on it. I joked with him for a bit. I bought his CD he signed it, and I got my picture taken with him. I told him I love him, and praised him for the awareness he brings to people with disabilities through his comedy. It is a night I will never forget, and I hope to see one day soon, and hope that we can become good friends.
