As I've mentioned earlier, my mom and I love to go on these special picnics where we gather up some goodies, park somewhere, and eat them.
One of our places to stop is the Applewood Marathon, which is a well-lit, clean-looking spot right on the northeast corner of Scatterfield Road and 59th Street.
You can fill and wash your vehicles there, but the big attraction for the two of us there is the food--and, on top of that, very friendly service!--that awaits customers in the cheerful, well-stocked convenience store.
There's everything there from ice cream, candy, cake, cookies, and other sinfully-delicious munchies to sandwiches (hot and cold), coffee (plain and fancy), health drinks, and--among many more items--licorice and its twisted cousins of various colors and flavors.
There are dinners, entrees, etc. (both frozen and on the shelves) that can be purchased to either take home and prepare or else cook right there using the microwave.
Oh yes! How can I forget those spicy, Amish sausages that my mom wants nothing to do with, and I want everything to do with!?!
Besides food items, they have other little necessities such as maps, atlases, aspirin, notebooks, etc.--plus a number of delightful items that make nice gifts for others (or yourself).
And, yes, they DO sell lottery tickets--both the instant kind and the kind for the drawings.
If you have a cooler, you can also buy bags of ice there in a choice of two sizes.
What I've written here only BEGINS to cover it, so you'll just have to check it out for yourself if you're ever in Anderson.
