Yesterday we visited The Disney Store, located in the Lansing Mall. We had a return for a toy that was purchased for my 5 year old. When we opened up the Buzz Lightyear Skateboard we noticed the bottom of the battery compartment was missing (to hold the batteries in). If any of you have kids you would know what I am talking about when I say it's near impossible to open a package up neatly with all the ties they have in there now a days. We were greeted by the salesman. I went on to explain how the toy had the missing piece. He asked me if I wanted to browse the store after saying "No, I just want my money back" (I had paid with cash & had the receipt) he told me that he could only give me store credit because he wouldn't be able to "re-shelve" the item. This is where I became upset. I went on to say that I understand that he can't re-shelf the item however, I can't play with the toy because I bought it from you store and it is defective. He then says well I can exchange it and give you another one. I said "That's fine, I'll take the exchanged one and just turn around and return that one!" He again said he couldn't do that. Keep in mind we met all the requirements for a return. We had the receipt & it was within the time frame allotted. I was starting to get upset and my husband knew it, he politely asked if he could see the manager when the gentlemen said he was one of them (and happened to be the only one in the store). I was floored at the way he treated customers. I didn't want to look around the store, I do love The Disney Store, it has such unique items. However, if I come in with a receipt for items that I paid cash for and the total was over $160 - there should be no questions asked regarding a return. The item I was returning was only $20.00, not a $100.00 item. He ended up giving us the cash for the item we were returning after a bit of a tussle and it frustrated me. I feel he was very unprofessional and cannot understand his judgment call on this particular return. Looks like the next Disney Store we will be going to will be in the Novi Mall!
