Review content:
My primary goals were to "break the cycle" of bipolar disorder, which had been ruling my life for 6 months with severe up and down mood swings. I hoped to try out different medications, get more information about the illness, and learn skills to help me manage the downs.
The Medical blew me away. They reassured me about the manageability of my disorder, quelled my fears around starting on Lithium, and communicated other pertinent information about my medications. Every time I met with them I felt respected and cared for -- I knew I was in good hands. I also absolutely adore the other medical staff. They are wonderful, compassionate, thorough, and go out of their way to meet your needs. They helped reframe some of my fears/limitations around sleep and other medical issues, overall building my confidence moving forward. Again, great team! I hope to use the DBT skills every day! I got a lot out of the material. The skills are simple, but so applicable. I'm glad we do them 6 days/week. I also very much enjoyed the Boundaries videos, despite the fact that I do not practice the Christian religion. Boundaries classes were particularly helpful when an exercise was done around them, such as when we tried a physical exercise involving boundaries w/ a partner and then discussed the results together. I personally got a lot of healing from the Art Therapy classes -- please keep those up, because so much can be processed there that is less accessible through talk therapy. My lead therapist's groups were a highlight -- I coined the term "getting {therapist's name}" to mean when she worked with a client on a particular issue (i.e. grief), gently lifted their heart out of their chests, massaged it for a while, and returned it better than she found it. The food is great. The front desk/scheduling team is a well-oiled machine! It's rare that you work with an organization whose actions are so aligned with their values. I applaud all at The Center and thank you from the bottom of my heart!!
