My (now) wife and I were looking for a venue for our wedding and we looked at HJS. It was a beautiful setting and we were promised the world. We were told in our initial consultation that we would be able to have our wedding reception there and it would work within our budget of $6k. We put a deposit of $1000 down, signed a contract and went home very pleased and excited to have the beautiful wedding my wife wanted and deserved.\r

About a week later, we received a call from Colt, the manager at the time, telling us our plans were being finalized and the price would only be $10k (said in a manner as if we would be pleased with this number). When I asked about the change in price, I was told, ""oh the extra is the cost of food."" ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?! they quoted us a price for everything and we most certainly discussed food, we even discussed the specific meal we would have and we signed a contract.\r

Obviously I was not happy with this and told them that we would not be able to afford this, as we were paying for the wedding ourselves. I was told the deposit was non-refundable, which was in the contract, however I was also told that they would refund our deposit if they were able to rebook the date (May Wedding shouldn't be too difficult to rebook). Months went by and the communication started to drop, Colt and the owner started dodging us and even told us that they were unable to book the date, so we wouldn't receive a refund. This was a COMPLETE LIE. I had a friend looking for a wedding venue so I had her call up there and they told her that date was booked, yet when Colt responded to my email, he claimed that it wasn't set in stone yet, but would happily refund my money if they signed a contract. OK I can understand that....\r

So the big day arrived.... It was May 8th 2010, a date that HSJ wasn't able to rebook, or so they said. Where they messed up is that I actually had a family member attend a wedding reception there on that day, took pictures with time stamps, proving that they had, in fact, rebooked it and stole my money.\r
\r
Everyone I have spoken to about HJS has told me that the owner is incredibly shady and that they are an extremely dishonest organization. I wish I had asked around sooner....\r

Lesson learned, STAY AWAY!!!\r
