Dental work, Asperger's syndrome and anxiety those three phrases do not go together! They are, however, my reality. Well actually, they are my son's reality. He needed braces as do most children on the autism spectrum. I could not imagine how anyone could get braces on my son who has such sensory issues when he doesn't like his hair brushed? Well we went to one orthodontist for a consultation and she suggested a pallet expander. Which he did need but?how can he have a foreign object in the top of his mouth when he can't stand the feeling of brushing his teeth? She just didn't understand his issues and said come back in 6 months when he is a little more mature and we'll talk again. HELLO!!! He has been like this since day one, I don't think he is going to get ?better? in 6 months? So I went home and I researched online, different types of braces and orthodontist if I had to drive 3 hours to find someone who understood my son? trust me I would. I found the wonderful office of Dr.
