Review content:
We discovered that our unit had been broken into a couple of weeks ago. I called the owner and had to call him again after 20+ minutes of waiting (when I commented on the wait time later he told me there wasnt ""a murder"" there so he didn't need to rush over and that it was impatient and unkind of me to expect him there sooner) he came and accused us of leaving trash next to our unit and has just been awful to work with~very rude and negative from the beginning. We have pictures that show the back door with his commercial lock wasn't locked as well as our lock being tampered with. He says he doesn't know if they broke into our lock and jimmied his lock~so much for having cameras that you can look at to see what happened! The owner laughed at me for thinking that he even looked at the tapes and told me that WalMart cameras cant catch everything and that people don't sit in front of surveillance cameras all day. I wasn't expecting him to sit in front of them all day but I can't believe he didn't catch any of the criminal activity of coming and going and apparently he doesnt ever review the tapes to check on the security. After our reports of theft and suspicious people hanging out around the place he fixed the gates in the back where people could have easily slipped through but won't at least refund some of our money. We read ALL of the lease contract and have been honest with him the whole time so that isn't the problem. Yes, we signed a contract and rented at our own risk but it was HIS LOCK and door that wasn't locked even after we changed our lock (our second lock wasn't tampered with)~he told us that he checked his back door and lock and that it was a commercial lock and only he has the key but when we moved out four days later his door could be lifted right up from the back in an open area easy for thieves to take our stuff right out without a problem. He lectured us about not giving 30 day notice as stated in our lease but who in their right mind would continue to keep there things in a storage unit that had been robbed!?!? It's a good thing we did move our things out because with the easy access to his unlocked back door more of our stuff would have been stolen! Find somewhere else to store in Ames!!!!!!!!!!!
