Review content:
Went to the Red Fox last night for a quiet dinner date with my wife. The hostess was pleasant and seated us promptly, but quiet was not on the menu in so far as the wait staff. If I wanted loud southern hospitality, I would have went to a BBQ restaurant. The self professed waitress, slash bartender, slash manager was out of place with the ambiance of the facility. We could not escape the loud story of how 3 large table reservations were coming in an hour later as she recounted it to each of the other 5 tables around us that had been seated. The overall service was slow and unprofessional. At one point Chef Haggerty actually came out and bussed tables while the staff stood on the sidelines chatting. The Ceasar and Goat Cheese salads were fresh and delicious. My wife had the fried shrimp, and they were done perfectly. I had the Maque Choux (Grilled Red Snapper). While the fillet was served atop a creative mix of corn and cream sauce, it did not taste like more than a frozen piece of tilapia. I have tried each of the previous restaurants that have occupied this location, and was even married at the Veranda. Baytown and Texas Avenue in particular need to have a successful anchor restaurant at this location, but I question if the Red Fox is up to the task. I may give them another chance in the future; but for now if I want to drop $100 for a quiet dinner date with my wife, we are going to Cullen's.
