Review content:
I have been a customer of Bangkok Cafe since it first opened its doors. I used to go across the street to Ferndale's original Thai place (Bangkok Express). The owner, Sam, was a great guy and man! - could he cook some hot Thai food! Sadly, Sam passed away, but his son Alex carried on the tradition and opened Bangkok Cafe and he can still be found working in the kitchen there almost every night. I craved this place madly while I spent a decade in Phoenix, and every time I returned to Detroit for a visit, I would drive there straight from the airport. Yeah, yeah - so the ambience ain't that great - big deal! Call, get it, and go! It never takes longer than 5 minutes to get your carry-out , even when the place is packed (which it often is). The portions are excellent and the prices are very reasonable. The Satay appetizer is very good, and you can't go wrong with any of the soups. Pad Thai and Pad See'wew are done to perfection, as are the Drunken Noodles. I have NEVER had a dish from this place that I didn't like.....the Kiss Me Beef, Chicken Curry, Panang, Gan Gao Wren....it's all great! Even if you don't like your Thai food spicy, you'll enjoy the flavoring of the food. \r Keep up the great work, Alex!! I'm a Bangkok Cafe customer for life! (just thinking about makes my mouth water....think I'll stop on the way home tonight) Pros: food, portions, value Cons: ambience
