Review content:
We thought the Crystal Cathedral Preschool would be a great place to introduce our 3 yr old to social skills & religion. I addressed my concerns w/the Director re him being lost in the shuffle if he's ahead of his peer group. I was told all factors would be considered (intelligence, social & emotional maturity), & that things would be fine. The vibe felt during our acceptance interview was an uneasy one (how fast can we get him potty trained, how soon would we want to bring him in to 5 days a week). The only spot available was 2x/wk. 6 classes later, my husband & I were told that he was ""ready"" to move to 5x/wk because of potty training. The next week, my husband & I found ourselves sitting in the office because our son exhibited aggressive behavior to students & teachers. Teachers were not taking a proactive approach to teach him how to be social with the other children, & introduce to him skills necessary for getting along with his peers. They were more reactive to children?s actions, & just as passive with discipline. When this was brought to the administrator?s attention the following day, the administrator kept interrupting my husband to ""control"" the conversation. I thought parent/teacher conferences were supposed to be productive discussions where parents & staff work together for the best interest of the child, not an hour of ""I have been in this business for many years and know better than you."" I think the Preschool is great for children who have been exposed to regular play dates, played with other children their age on a playground or park (not just independent play). The curriculum is great, & the atmosphere is nice. For kids who have had minimal to no exposure...I highly recommend that you spend the extra money and take them to another school. Kids will have a better chance at success learning and mastering skills from teachers and staff who take the time to teach instead of concerning themselves over how many kids they can fill a classroom.
Pros: Inviting atmosphere, some teachers genuine, curriculum appears nice
Cons: Passive in discipline, teachers more reactive than proactive, some staff not genuine with kids, no variety in paid hot lunch menu or snacks, curriculum not challenging for some
