Review content:
This restaurant defines what it means to dine German in SF. The ambience is pure europe - from the bleached pine tables hand scrubbed nightly - to the starkness of the plain room with its coved ceiling and hundreds of candles adding a surreal effect. The staff is the best. They clearly love their job and will laugh and treat customers like family. This restaurant has a huge base of regulars who swear by it. Foodwise, expecting those expecting heavy German fare won't be disappointed but unlike most other German restaurants in SF, it's really *good* food. And the beer selection of course is par excellence. Crowded on the weekends it's best experienced midweek. Shared great tables make the experience that much more unique as diners and waitstaff intermingle with your conversation. Pros: Beer selection, Ambience, Affordable Cons: Parking, Busy on weekends
