Review content:
My companion and I traveled from Brooklyn because he had seen the web page for this establishment online and thought that it looked like something that we should check out, so off we went with high hopes for a satisfying experience. Upon our arrival, we were greeted courteously and seated promptly. The buffet looked appetizing with the majority of dishes being chicken dishes, but there was no white meat chicken to be found and this annoyed me, because I am not a dark meat eater as a rule. I tried to eat some chicken, but it was so dark that I wondered if it was really chicken or instead, some mystery meat of unknown origin. Despite that fact, the food was seasoned well. The yellow dal was tasty as were the condiment sauces. I ordered a soda and it was watered down. The restroom was a mess, very poorly maintained. There was one dessert offering, rice pudding, which my dining companion deemed as pasty and not edible. (And since he likes to end his Indian meals with rice pudding, we ended up going elsewhere for it.) We asked for the bill and paid, handing it to one of the waiters. We left, and as we were halfway down the block, we heard someone calling out - it was a staff member from the place. We had no idea what he wanted - and we waited for him to come to us. We were shocked to hear him accusing us of leaving without paying! He grilled us and we insisted that we paid, while he insisted that we did not. I was most humiliated, indeed, and my companion was getting rather mad. Finally, after describing who we gave the money to, the man walked away. What nerve! We will NEVER return there again! There is no excuse for such rude and shabby treatment! Indian Taj is not worth a trip from anywhere - They should be ashamed! Save your money and go to Jackson Diner (several doors down) instead. I didn't like that place either when we tried it several years ago, but at least they don't abuse their customers!
Pros: Was able to find parking at night
Cons: Rude and shabby treatment, low quality poultry used
