Son had a bad experience, they did a root canal and the novicain wore off, they wouldn't listen to him and in fact ask him to stop crying. Also, they would not allow me to stay in the room with him, which I thought was strange, I've never had a dentist insist I wait elsewhere while they treat my child. This was his first experience with the dentist and they knew this. He was too afraid and/or in shock to say anything till we walked out the front door, at this point he just lost it! I have never seen him in this much pain, it ripped my heart out that I had trusted them with him. He was only 5 years old,screaming it hurts, it hurts, help me. I had initially wanted sedation so he wouldn't be afraid of the Dentist in the future. But was talked out of it. To this day he remebers exactly what happend and when he hears the word dentist or drives by that office, he goes into a panic attack. Anyhow, be aware and this is for any Doctor or Dentist, if it doesn't feel right, find a new one, if you want something specific done like sedation and the dentist disagrees find a new one for a second opinion. If a dentist will not allow you to go back with a small chld and you wish to, find a new one. Trust me you don't want the guilt I have of handing over my little one and having him go through this much pain!
