Yeah, this place isn't that great. I don't recommend consigning any items at all. They claim to provide you with a 40% commission for the items but they don't. I thought this place was legit considering the high end items this store sells - I was sorely mistaken.
I was lured into this place by the fancy items displayed by the window. I ended up buying a few high end items for a pretty exceptional price. As a buyer and veteran of consignment shops, I noticed 2 peculiar things about this second-hand shop: (1) they do not have price tags on any of the consigned items so it instantly led me to believe that the price might vary from sales associate to sales associate (2) when you purchase the item(s), your receipt does not identify what you purchased it only says the price. The fact that there are no price tags and the receipt does not identify what you purchased make it very difficult for any consignor to claim their 40% commission - how do they know what their item sold for, how do they know if their item was sold or lost? How do they know if their 40% commission is correct?
I rarely consign items - if I do it is because I could not sell it on online - but this time I chose to consign with this shop. I brought in a valuable item that retails for $2.2K new. I was reflecting on what a great deal I received at this shop so I decided to look up the store online and I stumble upon all these poor reviews. I decide to inquire about my item and try to collect my item and I am told by one employee that my item is unsold and told by a second employee that my item is sold. They both then agreed that it was sold. I then retaliated by asking for my 40% commission because I did not believe that it was sold. It was then that I was told that though the item was sold the person had not paid for the item yet. Any wise sales person would not commit to selling a person an item if they did not pay for it - they would merely sell it to whomever pays for it on the spot.
**Point blank: Once you hand over your item to the store, consider it gone. Don't expect to acquire it back even if you see it on the window or on a hanger at the shop. If your item does sell, expect to get very little for it. As for my $2.2K item (which probably would have sold for at least $600-$800 used) was supposedly sold for less than $250 and my 40% of that was less than $100. It was a complete ripoff!**
I'd love to see every person who has recently consigned here to all meet up at the store at the same time on the same day and fish out their items and walk out of the store whether the sales associate or owner agree or disagree. :-)
