After weeks and weeks of no returned phone calls, emails, etc. my family was forced to cancel our wedding reception 2 weeks prior to the date scheduled. We had agreed to do a package deal with this venue and the caterer in which the owner, John Miller, was supposed to call in our order to the caterer. (With the package deal we were to pay Riverstar for the food, venue, alcohol, etc and they were supposed to be the ones to work with the caterer). The caterer, my mother, and myself called the man several times per week, left several messages, and sent our menu to him via email, and he failed to call the caterer to set up arrangements. With a little more than 2 weeks left before the reception, my mother finally felt the need to drive down there and speak to him in person. At that time he told my mother that everything was fine, he JUST got off the phone with the caterer and they were ok with getting paid the day of the reception. As soon as my mother got home, the caterer called and stated that John had never called in the order and that their policy was that they needed to be paid 2 weeks in advanced by John. He bold-faced lied to us, and it wouldn't be the last time. The caterer told us at that time that they were NOT going to deal with this man b/c they have had problems with him in the past. After the phone call with the caterer, my mother called back down to Riverstar and asked to speak with John. He, of course, was not there, so she left a message saying that we are forced to cancel the reception due to not having a caterer b/c of his actions and that my father would be down the next day for a refund. The next day my husband and father went down while John was there and stated we wanted our money back. John's response was ""No problem... I can't cut you a check now b/c the money is in escrow. Whats your number and I'll call you."" With the history of him NEVER calling us back regarding anything, my father told him ""no, you give me a time and date and we will be down."" John said to come back Friday (two days later) at 4pm . That friday, my husband went down there at 4pm. He was told that John had to go pick up a band and that his phone was off, so we couldn't call him. After waiting there for an hour, my husband decided to leave. At that time, my mother was just getting off work and decided to go down there herself. She was told that John was out to dinner. She waited in the parking lot from 5:40 till around 6:50, when she decided to go and check. John's sister came out and said ""are you the one that canceled the reception?"" My mother responded by saying she was forced to and she was there to get her money like we were told two days prior. Pam Miller responded by saying ""Well you aren't going to get your money today."" My mom repeated that we were told by John to be down there today for our check. Pam then goes inside, and waves my mom in, where John had been the ENTIRE TIME! BEWARE OF RIVERSTAR AND JOHN MILLER Pros: none- completely ruined our reception and caused stress Cons: lies, lies lies
