I am confused by the reviews that say the beignets are bad. A beignet is fried dough smothered in powered sugar. It's like crack for adults. If you don't agree with the basic premise of deep fried dough with sugar all over it, then you should not eat beignets. \r

The beignets at CdM are addictive and chewy and delicious, and the place is a hustle bustle of slightly irritated waitstaff, buskers and wiped and rewiped tables. The coffee is also extremely enjoyable. It's a tourist trap! In the best sense of the word. I always take guests, and they always love it.\r

Pros: delicious, also classic
Cons: hmmm.
