Shopping at Hard Boiled is like wandering into the rec room of that snot nosed rich kid who had everything as a child. The only difference is that someone got rid of that kid and replaced him with the proprietor of Hard Boiled. Though the selection of this record and video store features indy rock and Asian film, there is something here for everyone. Hip-hop DJ's, jazz buffs, film students and the middle-aged married couple down the block who are sick of what corporate video rental has to offer are just a few of the regular customers you will run into here. Rental prices are comparable and fair as are the sale prices. And if you can't find it anywhere else, this is the place to look. If you still can't find it, I'm sure the owner will. Just last week, he e-mailed me to let me know that he found a copy of the ""sold-out"" Tortoise box set without a markup on the price. Fantastic customer service and conversation are just a few of the aspects that make it hard for me to leave this place in less than an hour and with less than three purchases. And seriously... Where else in Roscoe Village are you going to find a store this cool?
