Review content:
I used to frequent the Palace Cafe, but it was not because of the service, it was because it was one of the few places I could check my email and eat lunch at the same time (they provide free wireless internet for customers.) If it weren't for that, I would not have continued going there. The food and atmosphere was really fantastic, but the service was almost always awful. They almost always got my order wrong, and when it was correct, they took their time getting it to the table. I once saw my sandwich sitting in the window for 10 minutes before I finally went up and asked them to hand it to me. I knew someone on the staff there, and they once asked me why I did not come to the cafe anymore, and I did not want to tell her, but it was becuase I knew going there for a simple sandwich would take up my entire lunch hour. I once took a friend there in the evening for a beer. We were the only ones in the place. We stood at the register for what seemed like 10 minutes, and the guy behind the counter never even acknowledged our presence. Even after we grumbled and turned around to leave, the guy seemed oblivious. We walked out. he did not even apologize or try to stop us. Today I stopped in around 2PM to give them one more shot. The lunch rush was over and all the tables were empty. There was one customer ahead of me and two behind. There were three gentlemen behind the counter. I was appalled to see one of them counting money, the other helping himself to a soda from the fridge, and another slowly serving the cutomer in front of me instead of them busting their buts to take our orders into the kitchen. The guy grabbing the soda from the fridge even looked me dead in the eye yet walked right past me. I once again walked out of the restaurant without anyone noticing. I felt almost foolish for actually giving that place another try. It is amazing that the place still exists, really. Pros: Good food and dining room. Cons: TERRIBLE SERVICE!!!!
