A place is only as good as the people working at it and if I can only choose one word to sum this place, it would be ""incompetent."" \r

First of all, the managers are incredibly short sighted. They do not take the customer (or employee) seriously. Every time an employee or customer had a problem, suggestion, or complaint, the supervisors just ignored them. And when the customers or employee talked to the supervisor in person or wrote letters of concern, the supervisors talked to them in a very condescending manner. \r

I would also watch out for the so called ""programs"" they offer children. Apparently, they use the word ""programs"" to substitute the word ""baby sitting."" For this reason alone, do not think your child will receive any kind of ""dance"" or ""gymnastics"" training. Instead, expect your child to be in a class full of children doing inappropriate movements and instructors yelling (some instructors have touched children in inappropriate ways) Many of the instructors are not suited to teach children. The instructors are not well trained. In addition, the so called, ""Dance Room"" is does not even have a proper dance floor. As a result, the children get injured easily. \r

There have been good instructors who I have seen there. However, the supervisors make it so difficult for them, that the instructors decide to leave for better pay and better treatment. There is a huge turn over of instructors. The good instructors never stay. Mainly because the pay is terrible, there are no benefits, the environment is run down, dusty, dirty, and stuffy. They are also treated poorly by supervisors and even staff members. \r

The staff members seem friendly, however the supervisors and managers are the worst in town. If this is any indication of incompetence in the workplace, it's no wonder the Downey YMCA is losing customers and creating a bad reputation for itself.
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Unfriendly members, facility in poor shape, machines in need of repair, incompetent supervisors and managers
