I took my car in b/c it was running a little rough in fifth gear on the highway. It was $80 for the diagnostics and Terry told me that it was my fuel pump and that it would cost about $250 to replace and the diagnostic cost would be included in the $250. I agreed to have the fuel pump replaced. He then told me he had to remove the whole fuel tank to replace the pump and that it was more difficult than he estimate increasing the cost to $300. Then Terry called and told me I needed a new sending unit that cost over $200. When I asked Terry for an itemized bill it was $700+. Terry charged $500 for the fuel pump and sending unit alone. I paid Terry $200 for the labor but not the parts and asked him to put the pieces in the trunk and I would have a tow truck come and get it. He agreed and took the money but refused to release the car to the tow truck driver the next day. I found out after I got home from work. After I picked up the fuel pump and the sending unit at an auto store for ~$100 and told Terry to put them in. He gave me some lip about not taking a steak to a chef. I ended up getting out of there paying Terry $500. not to mention the $100 of auto store parts. When I was driving out Terry told me the brake line was leaking a little. I turns out that the line runs right by the gas tank and was completely crushed. the red brake light was on when I started the car, the pedal dropped to the floor, I had no brakes at all. I just took the back roads home and used the hand brake. I called and spoke with Terry about the brake line and he told me that it was leaking as soon as he put it up on the lift and that it just rusted through and all the brake lines needed replaced. I took it to another mechanic to have the lines replaced and they told me that it was crushed right at the corner of the gas tank. They also said that the lines looked fairly new. That was b/c my father had the brake and fuel lines replaced for me when I went to school. After I was able to travel on the highway the car still had the same issue when in fifth gear o the highway. Terry and Penn Garage are very dishonest business men and very poor mechanics.
