Review content:
I have been to quite a few steak restaurants in Manhattan, but have had few experiences as good as my most recent visit to Harry's Steak. The restaurant is situated at the back of Harry's Cafe, in Hanover Square, near Pearl St. The service was impeccable from the very start, with the hostess seating us at a quiet table near the back. The ambience was perfect, dimly lit and very elegant. We started out with the lobster tail appetizer, followed by the porterhouse for two (which was delicious). The sommelier was extremely knowledgeable, and stopped at our table to find out the best wine for us. He recommended a French wine that went perfectly with our meal, and was probably one of the best I have had. Although we were stuffed from our meal, we had to try the tiramisu and the apple crumble for dessert, followed by the cheese plate. Once again, the sommelier suggested the perfect dessert wine to accompany it. I have honestly never had such a wonderful dining experience. The combination of exemplary service, delicious, well-prepared food (and dessert) and ambience made for the perfect evening.
Pros: wine list, ambience, service
