What a nightmare! It took almost two weeks and multiple trips to the office to get the mailbox key after I moved in. KS, the owner, kept telling us she'd have the key ready and I'd drive down to the office and get some excuse about how busy she was, if there was even anyone there. KS promised to fix all kinds of stuff during the walk-through (broken window, light switches hanging out of and sinking into the walls, non-functioning lights, non-working doorbell)--it's all still broken over a year later. It started raining and hailing into the fireplace (sealed off, non-functioning) during the last four months of my lease. I finally had to seal it off with tape and cardboard because no one ever came out to fix it and there were house centipedes coming in and biting my dog.\r \r My lease is up on the 31st of the month, and KS had someone who wanted to move in on the 27th. I told her I'd be out and have the apartment clean by the 18th and asked her to do a walkthrough with me to make sure the cleaning job was okay. She offered to just check it when she showed the place to the new tenant. I finished cleaning on the 18th and left her a note at the office with a couple of phone numbers so she could get in touch. I still hadn't heard from her by the 22nd so I called to have the electric service extended and found out someone else was setting it up in their name. I called KS and she started yelling at me that the woman wanted to move in early and the place was filthy and she'd already charged me for carpet cleaning and she hadn't even looked at anything else yet (even though she'd already moved someone else in) and why the h*** hadn't I returned her keys yet.\r \r I feel so used and ripped off. This wasn't a cheap apartment, either. I was paying almost $500 for a one-bedroom. If you're thinking about renting somewhere and don't have any references, take the time to talk to the other tenants. I wish I had--anyone in my building could have warned me.
