Review content:
I have lived in Pearland for just over six years, and have passed by Ruby probably hundreds of times but never stopped to eat there until tonight. I am extremely picky about my Chinese food. I only eat Pepper Steak, fried rice and Veggie Lo Mein, and am very particular about the taste, temperature and freshness of the meat. I've read several good and bad reviews on this place, so I never wanted to give it a chance. Here lately, I've noticed several cars outside in the evenings, so I decided to give it a try. My party of three arrived around 4pm for an early dinner. The place is a little small; not nearly as large as it appears from the outside. There was only one other table taken in the whole place, so we were pretty isolated. The buffet is small compared to the others I have been to, but had all the necessary staples of a classic Chinese menu - Lo Mein, Pepper Steak, General Tso's, Sweet and Sour everything, all the classic soups, eggrolls, veggies, fruits/salads, etc. There were items for non-Chinese eaters such as macaroni and cheese, pizzas, corn dogs, spare ribs, etc. It was during this time (the 3 o'clock hour) that they were taking all the food from lunch to the back and bringing out fresh food for the dinner clients. The wait staff was extremely attentive; filling up our beverages several times, letting us know when they were bringing out fresh entrees, etc. The food was very good, especially for a buffet. Nothing higher-end like Pei Wei or PFChangs, but a classic, good, hit-the-spot Chinese buffet. Prices were about average for a buffet - it was about $10/person to eat there, including beverages. Overall, glad we went there and will certainly be back. Not sure of the freshness at later dining hours, but during high volume hours the food is supposedly refreshed often. Recommended.
