Review content:
After my experience at 'A Wet Pet' last night, I won't be darkening their doorstep ever again, despite being a customer there for the past 4+ years. A few days ago, I went there to purchase some aquarium filters for a new tank, and didn't see the right kind, but a female employee assured me that a brand they sold 'would work just fine'. Being this tank was new, I wasn't so sure, but she told me to go ahead and try these, and if they weren't the right kind, I was assured I could return them. Well, they were not the correct filters, so I went back to the store. From other reviews, I can only assume Greg, the bald older man, was working last night (08/24/2012), and upon my arrival, was dealing with another customer. No problem. I waited up front for about 10 minutes before I went to the back of the store, where he asked if he could assist me. I told him I had a return and that I understood he was with another customer, so I would wait up front. But before I could even really finish, he said, 'A RETURN?? For WHAT?' I said, 'Aquarium filters.' Without another word, he turned his back and continued helping the other customer. At that point, I went back up front and began looking around for any signs that said, 'No Returns', but nothing like that for merchandise purchases. I waited another 10 minutes before Greg came back to the front of the store. I removed the filters from the bag (which were unopened), along with my receipt. He pointed to the receipt and said, 'See here, it says 'EXCHANGE WITH RECEIPT'. I agreed, yes, it did indeed say that, and said I did not wish to exchange them, as I'd looked further, and again, did NOT see the filters I needed, so I wished to simply return them. I was then advised 'there are no returns'. What? When I said that I did not see any signs that stated 'No Returns', he again pointed to the receipt, and again, said, 'EXCHANGE WITH RECEIPT. I can exchange these for something else.' I advised I would just like to have my credit card credited back instead, and handed him the original slip I'd gotten with the purchase. Well, it seems my fatal flaw with this whole purchase was using my American Express card. Greg became very exasperated and hastily advised me that in order to credit my card back, it was going to cost him a total of 10% of my $9.63 purchase price (5% on the sale, 5% on the credit back), so $.96, and because my purchase had been made on 08/18/2012, he wouldn't even get paid for my purchase until 09/18/2012, or 30 days later, because 'that's how American Express works!!'. I NEVER lose my temper with sales people, but he pushed it too far. I told him, 'Look. Are you going to credit my card back, or do I have to dispute this charge with American Express, and just leave these filters with you? Because this charge hasn't even been paid for by me yet, American Express is VERY good about disputed charges, and you have absolutely no signs in your stores about 'NO RETURNS' - and 'Exchange with Receipt is NOT the same thing, sir.' What he did next stunned me. He removed his wallet from his pants, opened it, and literally FLUNG a $10 bill at me, and said, 'HERE'S your $9.63.' Stunned. I was absolutely stunned. For about 5 seconds. I started to go into my purse (yes, I'm a woman) and asked him if he would like his $.37, and all he did was snort, 'Forget it!!' I'm sorry to say I called him an asshole and left the store, but that man had it coming to him. I will never go back, and I suggest people invest their money elsewhere. Honestly, I used this store as opposed to Wal-Mart or Petco, because I do try to shop at the independent places, but this guy? AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Besides being absolutely THE rudest merchant I have ever come across, the store really is overpriced, his female sales associate did give me incorrect information when I believe I explained exactly what I needed. Please, go elsewhere. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
