Review content:
OK, yes, it's got a lot of hungry bodybuilders in it, but they're part of the neighborhood and its history, with Gold's and Venice Beach both around the corners. I've been going there since moving to Venice in 2002 and have always found it welcoming and warm, and the food delicious. It may be that it's a very 'inside' experience. The food (and portions) are geared towards bodybuilders, so the value is very good. The waiters and waitresses are extraordinarily and consistently warm and helpful, especially if you are starving, and I can only say that if there is an unconscious culture clash between patron and staff, that could account for some of the grumbling seen in these reviews. You don't go into a corner hash joint in a place like Venice or Silverlake and expect it to be the Ritz. Stuff like that can come across subliminally, if you'll excuse the Californianism. I think it's a sensational place, take nearly every one of my meals there when I'm on this coast. Think ""When in Rome"" and you may have a better experience. Try the tandoori chicken, it's just sensational. If you are a body builder or a health nut, you already know what to order. If you want something entirely boutiquey and high-end deli, the Rose Cafe is right across the street, and equally good in its entirely different way. Vive la difference!!!!
Pros: Friendly, huge portions, fun
Cons: Sometimes brunch is a strange melange of huge bodyparts and spoiled toddlers
