The sweltering San Gabriel Valley summer is beating down on you and you can't find solace in boba. Where do you go for your Hawaiian shaved ice and Japanese Hawaiaan home cooking? Shakas answers this question. Nestled on the corner of Riggin and Garfield Avenue in Monterey Park, Shakas serves up tvs, air conditioning, and good food at decent prices ($5 average). If you like pork, try the kahlua pork bowl. If you like salads, I highly recommend their ""Chinese Chicken Salad"" with their own punchy red salad dressing. If you want to go to town, there are specials like the 442nd (named after the famous Japanese American regiment in WWII) which includes a number of the popular items. If you just want to cool out, there is the shaved ice. Be warned, parking can often be competitive. Pros: Shaved ice Cons: Parking at lunch hour
