Thank you so much for the time you took with Elizabeth! She was so excited about the program that she ran to my car before I could even get out of it to let me know how excited she was about Mathnasium. Elizabeth asked for help in math when she was in the third grade because she didn?t believe that her teacher at the time was teaching her math effectively. When my children have problems I encourage them to find solutions and so she researched and found Kumon. We put her in it but she didn?t like being timed and the repetitiveness of the program and she wanted desperately to understand the concepts. Many children like practice but not the figuring out and understanding part. Elizabeth wants to understand the concepts and often had lots of questions that they didn?t encourage at Kumon and so that petered out and it became a struggle to get her there. When Elizabeth understands something that may have been confusing to her initially and then she gets it she shines! and when she doesn?t get it [at which point she shuts down] she saddens and that is a face I hope you never see. So Kumon lasted about a year?but she had also found you guys afterwards as a substitute [as you can tell?she really wants help?it's not common to have a kid want it so bad that she find ways to seek it] ? and voila! here we are. In math right now, Elizabeth?s biggest issue is reading and processing questions in mathematics ? they are doing algebraic forms and when looking at her homework, you could clearly see that she isn?t getting it and at the same time?you could see that she is really trying to get it. What excited her most about your program is the fact that she understands that she is going to be taught concepts and the correct ways to look at math and if she is confused there is always someone there to help her get it ? if one person has a problem getting her to understand it?someone else is there to try. She thought that was really important because she said, ?It shows, Mom that they really care about you and that made me feel special.? That truly touched my heart and felt that I should share that with you.
