My pet cat had an infected anal gland, and since we were basically financially raped from the previous place that we took her to, we decided to heed our cousins' advice and take her to Island Rescue. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a terrible odor; the smell was nauseating and the waiting area looked dirty and unkempt. The wait was not that long, however the staff looked completely rushed.....it was about two hours before closing so I don't know why we were being rushed out. In the office (also dirty), the doctor was impersonal and very forceful with my cat. The doctor literally did not try to calm the animal or make her feel at ease. She took the animal, to the next room (within ear-shot) and we could hear her cries for over fifteen minutes! That was true of the other two pets that were at this place at the same time. When we got her home, her bottom looked terrible. Five months ago she had the same procedure at a different place and the procedure came out perfect. She also had blood work done, basically scaring us to death-mentioning cancer and leukemia only to wait until later on in the previous night to call us and tell us that she was perfectly fine. She was also vague when it came to giving her medicine, and failed to give us a protective cone for her. Listen, I understand times are tough, but you do sacrifice a lot when it comes to going to this place. True, you do run the risk of getting ripped off, but the comfort of your pet is truly important; make sure that your vet or vet assistant treats your pet like a member of the family. Sometimes you get what you pay for. Pros: It's Cheap Cons: Traumatizing experience for all!
