Review content:
So my roommate and I have been wanting internet for a while. I did some research via the internet to compare prices and such and between that and my experiences with the two it was between White County Cable and CenturyLink. To me cable is a bit faster so I made the call and spoke with a staff member. I was told my internet would be about $50 with a contract or about $70 without. I mentioned to her that that is not what the website says but she said it may be a little outdated so I went with it and signed up with a contract. The Tech came out 7/16/2010 and set up my internet with a wireless router which I explained to him was a mistake since I EXPLICITLY said I need the modem ONLY...NOT wireless since I have my own wireless router. The tech said someone would switch it out Monday for no charge. So over the weekend I tried to enjoy my internet buuut it was going quite slow. I could not watch movies as I had hoped and downloading anything was a pain. So I emailed the company Saturday afternoon about it and got a reply Monday saying I had gotten signed up with Lite internet (which to me was a huge mistake since I'll be paying $50 per month) so I went to the office as the email suggested. When I get up there and explain my situation it is THEN that someone mentions that if you DON'T HAVE CABLE YOU'RE CLASSIFIED AS A BUSINESS. So I am paying the BUSINESS prices for my internet which is $50 for Lite and $100 for Standard. To me this is ridiculous because
(a) there is no reason for me to be classified as a business
(b) that is outrageous for internet anyway
(c) I was never informed that I would be charged as a business
I believe White County Cable TV has a monopoly on the entire county because they are one of the only options unless you get satellite. I believe they know they have this monopoly and take full advantage of it. I would NEVER recommend them to anybody and wish I would have gone with DSL because at least they told me everything I would be paying for per month.
Cons: Do not fully explain what you are getting into
