I think it's generally odd for an entire bar to hush when new people walk in the door, especially when you're new to the town and just getting a feel for ""where to go."" Forget ""odd""; it's downright disconcerting. In fact, I think the only people who didn't pause their conversations to watch my friend and me walk through the door were the bartenders and the doorman, leaving me with an overall feel that no matter what I did, I would not be welcome there. I won't be returning.
