Kramerbooks and Afterwards Cafe is a great, unique-to-DC spot that I like to take all my visiting friends and new DC residents to. The place has a great vibe, thanks to the cute bookstore that takes up the front half of it; the back half with the restaurant and bar is always bustling and lively. Every dish, either sweet or savory, that I've eaten at Afterwards has been delicious. They run a bit expensive than other options in the Dupont area, but where else can you find burgers and lamb tagines in the same spot? Speaking of, the lamb tagine is excellent, with tender pieces of lamb and vegetables stewed in a lovely broth served with couscous. Their butternut squash ravioli is excellent as well, slightly sweet but buttery with a light oil sauce. Don't skip on dessert here, either - every pie and cake I've had is awesome (especially the double chocolate - chunks of brownie and chocolate truffle in chocolate sponge and mousse cake).
