Review content:
This used to be one of the best family run butcher shops in Portland. Unfortunately, with the advent of the counter being staffed by the family's kids and friends from school; this once fine shop has degenerated into a glorified day care center.
You can't get a rib chop or a T-bone because mommy has removed the band saw so her precious little snots don't hurt themselves.(she told me herself) The sausages are still made in very large batches, yet they don't sell that fast, so you run the risk of buying week old cased meat.... yummy
The place can have the air of a middle school playground. Ordering from the meat counter feels like telling the neighborhood kids to get off your lawn.
I do not order from the sandwich counter unless it is staffed by one of the few remaining competent adults.
Their in house deli meats and smoked fish are still exceptional and do not seem to suffer as much from the fact that they have driven away much of their business. Steak and chop selection is limited due to aforementioned band saw issue and are rather pricey given mediocre quality.
Lest the reader think my vitriol is merely for my own satisfaction; I really do want to see this place return to what it once was.
Pros: Deli Meats, Continual Sausage BBQ
Cons: Snotty Service, High Prices, Questionable Quality Products
