I needed to have a few photographs blown up for an art gallery and PC Colour Lab is just down the street from where I work. I'm not a professional photographer, so I needed a lab to print great quality. PC Colour Lab people very friendly and helpful, and the photos looked beautiful, with the exception of one. The last print was very very dark--to the point where you could not see a majority of what was in the photo. The printer claimed that the negative was dark and that if he had printed lighter it would have been grainy and washed out. I'm not sure if he was telling the truth, but either way I would have avoided the problem if I had presented the lab with an example.
