I have mix feelings about this place. It took us three attempts to successfully try the food at Facing East. Do not attempt to go there around 7:30pm-8:00pm especially on weekends as you will most likely guaranteed to be turned away by the host, they promptly close at 8pm, no more seating and definitely no more food served. Do not go there expecting late lunch or early dinner as they are closed from 3-5pm daily. So I suppose third time was the charm. By walking into the restaurant I already felt like I was back home in Taiwan, familiar smell of food and the familiar dialect spoken by the patrons eating there. The space is relatively small, they seem to have utilized as much of the available space as possible. Reading the menu was a truly exciting experience in itself, they?ve included a good majority of the common street vendor foods found in Taiwan. Some of my personal favorites are the minced pork sauce over rice and the squid potage rice noodles. I don?t really care much for the oyster pancake, that dish has much to improve on. Much of the food on the menu are really affordable, but beware of the special dishes off the menu. Special dishes means special price so ask for the price on specialties prior to placing your order. Customer service is also inconsistent and seems to be fluctuate by the mood of the waiters. I?ve experienced really good to so bad that left me not want to go back for a long time to come. With that noted, it?s really a buyers beware type of experience.
