I'm an ex-high school athlete now in my thirties who went for a long time battling the desire/apathy syndrome of joining gyms only to get bored at solo workouts or impersonal ""group classes."" When I started taekwondo, I was blown away by the learning curve - learning to use my body in a whole new way! What I enjoy best is that I'm on a personal fitness and martial arts progression in a community of friends. The style of taekwondo practiced here is non-contact. You will not hit or be hit here, nor will you need to invest in expensive training pads. Non-contact sparring requires focus and self-control, and there's plenty of opportunity to develop power and accuracy of technique by kicking heavy bags and breaking boards in every class. Great emphasis on forms (hyungs). At Traditional Taekwondo Kwan, you will find students of all ages, life circumstances and ability levels, sharing a common goal of bettering themselves. One of its assets is its ability to bridge any cultural divides; it has a strong family atmosphere as well as a welcoming presence for LGBTQ persons. It's a great place to start a new martial art or continue in your training!
